Hi everyone. I don’t know if this is the right section to post this, but I’d value your opinions. This is a model I made recently to put on my demo reel. I also intend to animate him soon. Thanks.

I couldn’t add an image in the edit above.

Nice texture work there Ken, a quick suggestion – is that a texture seam on the front of the arm I spy? If it is, try and disguise or move it to the inside of the arm, it may become quite visible under certain lighting conditions as you animate him. A good way of disguising a UV seam is to use render to texture and bake out a procedural texture, they bleed across seams rather nicely….

Well spotted Pete. :) I’ll probably try and sort it out manually without resorting to textures as I want to keep the render times down. They’re long enough as it is! :)

What are we talking here in terms of poly count??

He’s actually made of splines and patches….2280 of them in all. It’s not that the model is slow to render. It’s more that over about of 1 minute of animation it all adds up.

Dave: I’m not sure why you can’t see it. It’s just an attached jpeg. Nothing strange about it really.

2280 patches? What is the end polygon count (use polygon counter in utilities if you modelled him in max)

It does sound high doesn’t it!….Most of the number is in the teeth(1100). They’re pretty detailed as they’re going to be close up in the animation. There’s no utility like that in the software I’m using him in.

      What app did you use?

It’s a relative unknown…..Animation Master. But I find it good (and cheap!) enough to do my personal projects in. The character animation tool set is one of the most advanced around. IMO of course.

Is that Hash: Animation Master and if so have you ever seen “Killer Bean”??

That’s the one. :) The animation in KB is the most notable feature. Looks wise, it’s not the best. But the guy did well out of it…made KB2 and went on to do animation in The Matrix. Another big movie done with AM is Alien Song. It was big all over the net in 99 and also fronted a Mac campaign.

The guy who did Alien Song, Victor Navone, now works for Pixar……

I can see the images now. Very nice Ken, very nice indeed! :D

Can you post a render but add some lighting to the far side of the model, its a bit dark at the mo so I can’t really see his face properly. Love the texture on the body too…..great work!

Not sure why the images weren’t working, cos attached images work fine for me on 3DTotal, CGTalk etc…..

Thanks for the comments guys. It means alot :)
The other side of him is pretty much a mirror of this side, but here’s a better lit one of him.
I’ll post a link to the animation when it’s done.

      – How cheap KenH?, I haven’t done any 3d in ages but I’d love to go back and tinker a little. Did you do the modelling in that software too? Looks great BTW!!

      John.

It’s called Animation Master, but it does everything else apart from animation too. :) It’s a bad name marketing wise.

It only costs $299 but if you shop around, you can get it for $250! Hair and lots of plugins(that you have to buy for other software) are included. But be warned, if you come from a poly background it might take abit of time to learn splines. They’re abit more demanding. Anyway, do some investigating before you buy, but I’m definitely happy with it.

Alas, I can’t take the credit for that. It’s bone dynamics in action. But knock yourself out. :D
