Interesting story about DC Studios…I assume the Dublin studio will be set up ‘soon’?

it’s on hold currently as the folks who were moving over here to set it up have moved to Scotland to take over the Stae of Emergency 2 license. The deal with the Hub and IDA is still in place though – just might be end of this year/early next year before there is any movement on it

As far as I gathered from the ex-VIS guys who I worked with, some of the team from VIS were kept on, so DC didn’t really need to add too many people as there was already a team in place. I guess the real reason is they have committed alot of cash to SOE2 and if it doesnt work out that may end the hopes of seeing DC Dublin.

Anywho, the game is complete and due for release in April http://gamesindustry.biz/news.php?aid=14768

Seems like a loooong process to get this yoke open April 2005 becomes April 2007…

(I’ve obviously got too much time on my hands tonite…Im resting for tomorrow – erol alkan, DJ hype , The freestylers – yipee!)

If Southpeak are the publisher for all territories then it won’t be so bad for DC.

So DC Studios bought it and brought it to completion then (rather than acting as publisher). Is this correct?

Maybe they were offered a better deal by Scottish Enterprise?

Maybe they were offered a better deal by Scottish Enterprise?[/quote:bead11bd50]maybe, but I doubt it from speaking to Paul (the proposed head of DC Studios Dublin). Seems to have been more that the SOE license (and at least some of the team) came available… and in Scotland where they already had a significant presence

      Lol

(The original) was essentially a hysterically violent arcade beat-’em-up that tasked you with scoring points by causing as much chaos as you could and starting big, crazy riots, with hundreds of panicking people running around like frightened sheep. It was amusing for sure, but not everyone was able to latch onto it. Enter State of Emergency 2, a sequel that completely revamps the concepts of the first game and transforms it from a wacky beat-’em-up into a thoroughly structured third-person shooter with an actual storyline and no melee combat whatsoever. Incidentally, the original game’s developer, VIS Entertainment, was the one to get the ball rolling on this sequel, but SOE2 went through three publishers, two development houses, a bankruptcy, and a lot of drama to find its way onto store shelves. After playing through SOE2, it remains unclear what so many different companies saw in this generic and frustrating shooter.[/quote:6a17496fa9]

I think it was the case that most of the staff were just happy to have a job after VIS collapsed.

Maybe what happened was that it got to the stage that quite a bit of money was invested in the game that it would have been hard to can it. When VIS when pop, it probably wasn’t super expensive to acquire the game.

So best just to try and finish it to a playable state and ship it, hoping that there is a audience out there for it.

The first one sold a million copies if I remember correctly but that was on the back of GTA3 and its controversy…and the buzz surrounding Rockstar (they published the orginal SOE)
