KeymasterI just want to thank everyone who has sent an e-mail to events@gamedevelopers.ie to let us know that you are attending on Friday.
You will not receive an e-mail confirmation but all the names have been recorded and name badges will be available on the evening as well as a list of attendees.
It looks like we will have a very good crowd…
I will keep you posted…

Inactivethere’s a rumour going around that you don’t exist, Damian – that you are, in fact, an alter ego of Ivan’s cunningly designed to allow him post some of his more obscure ramblings!!
I put it to you, members of the jury, that this man is not real! How else explain his non-appearance at a single Shindig in this age of cheap air-travel, eh? Eh??

set up a pay pal and we’ll drop ya a euro, either that or maybe gd could give rewards points like tesco’s per post, except exhchangable for flights..

Keymasterah ha, Omen that would be telling!!
I have just posted the final list of nominations and the revised progamme for tomorrow night, including a link to a map of the place, under news on the home page.
Unfortunately a speaker from DC studios cannot make it so we have had to revise our list of speakers and the times.
I have been in contact with DC and they are aware of discussions on these forums and will be making announcements to us as soon as they can re. the Dublin studio and their plans. I look forward to circulating them to everyone as soon as we know more..
Regardless I think tomorrow night will be a very useful event and a great chance for people to meet people in the industry and in acadmia. About 50 people expressed an interest in attending the event so hopefully they will turn up on the night and make it the best birthday so far for gd.ie!!
I am looking forward to it…and the new look site will be unveiled too and hopefully we will have banned little boxes, broken forms and other such annoyances from our site..!!
Aphra.

InactiveNew guy to this forum!
I got an invitation for the conferance, and must say I thought it was very good. Although I couldnt stay long afterwards I hope to get to know people here better through this forum and future meetings. The game industry in Ireland has huge potential from what I have seen.
There are so many talented perople, and people with so much knowledge about games and still to few companies.
It seems like most of the talent goes over to england to work, whitch is a big shame.Hopefully this will change with time!:)

KeymasterMay is e3 month and start of conference season for us academics…also bank holidays at the beginning and the end which are never too good for organising shindigs.
..but hey, if we can agree on a date then great..
it also sees a month of games events in the digital hub..so tying it onto one of them might be an option..
having said that I would love to get to Cork during the year of culture…anyone down there want to try an organise or suggest a games related event – not just a shindig??
I wonder are there flights from Derry to Cork…?
Aphra.
-
April 11, 2005 at 11:11 am #19647

Inactiveflight from derry to cork, i dont think there be. but there are from belfast, expensive though. pretty cheap to go derry-dublin, dublin cork via aer arann (derry leg is logan air operating for BA).
I’m sure we could organise something down here. Games which teach kids culture?? Also im sure getting one of the boole lecture theatres could be pretty easy during May because everyone will be doing exams, wayhey thank god im doing the research masters :). Might be cool to hear torc and the lot talking about the company because cork seems to be a black hole, not many people down here know about the irish games industry. Probably would be useful Aphra for you also to speak.
But i could get onto the multimedia msc and see if they wanted to open day display their recent thesis. Some i heard are games related.
Also i can definately help with recommending good pubs\clubs, can probably put 3-4 of ye up for a night or two, if ye dont mind floors, couches etc. And accomadation is cheap and very central.
