I was really looking forward to making it to this one, but flights on friday and ridiculously expensive and at crap times too :(
April 5, 2005 at 8:40 am #19348
I just want to thank everyone who has sent an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know that you are attending on Friday.
You will not receive an e-mail confirmation but all the names have been recorded and name badges will be available on the evening as well as a list of attendees.
It looks like we will have a very good crowd…
I will keep you posted…
April 5, 2005 at 8:44 am #19349AnonymousInactive

April 5, 2005 at 12:06 pm #19369AnonymousInactive
there’s a rumour going around that you don’t exist, Damian – that you are, in fact, an alter ego of Ivan’s cunningly designed to allow him post some of his more obscure ramblings!!
I put it to you, members of the jury, that this man is not real! How else explain his non-appearance at a single Shindig in this age of cheap air-travel, eh? Eh??
April 5, 2005 at 12:14 pm #19370AnonymousInactive
hey, I made it to the sony psp talk, not my fault no one else went to that…
April 5, 2005 at 12:32 pm #19371AnonymousInactive
maybe gd need a whip around :0)
set up a pay pal and we’ll drop ya a euro, either that or maybe gd could give rewards points like tesco’s per post, except exhchangable for flights..
if that was the case omen probably would be able to get a flight from rio.
April 5, 2005 at 12:47 pm #19375AnonymousInactive
then find an internet cafe and start posting so i could get home :p

April 6, 2005 at 10:53 am #19401

..also the Avalon Hostel on South Great George’s Street or maybe at that point it is Camden st..

April 6, 2005 at 11:13 am #19406AnonymousInactive

Compile and load times give ample posting time.

April 7, 2005 at 5:49 pm #19545
ah ha, Omen that would be telling!!
I have just posted the final list of nominations and the revised progamme for tomorrow night, including a link to a map of the place, under news on the home page.
Unfortunately a speaker from DC studios cannot make it so we have had to revise our list of speakers and the times.
I have been in contact with DC and they are aware of discussions on these forums and will be making announcements to us as soon as they can re. the Dublin studio and their plans. I look forward to circulating them to everyone as soon as we know more..
Regardless I think tomorrow night will be a very useful event and a great chance for people to meet people in the industry and in acadmia. About 50 people expressed an interest in attending the event so hopefully they will turn up on the night and make it the best birthday so far for gd.ie!!
I am looking forward to it…and the new look site will be unveiled too and hopefully we will have banned little boxes, broken forms and other such annoyances from our site..!!

I think Pete is filling KITT full of the red, and driving down.
He only has room for one, in the eject seat.
April 8, 2005 at 7:10 am #19559AnonymousInactive
LOL Mal, I’ll be riding shotgun with Ireland’s finest bus drivers from the bus depot in Foyle Street, Derry on the 12.30 bus to Dublin.
April 8, 2005 at 7:13 am #19560AnonymousInactive
As previously for shindigs, I shall drive over from Rathfarnham so if anyone needs a lift, let me know… 1 seat or 3 seats available, depending on takers :)
April 8, 2005 at 7:22 am #19561AnonymousInactive
I’m going straight from work, which means I will probably be very early, by early I mean I’ll be in the area at around 5:15. So if anyone else is around……….I’ll be in McGruders pub. :D

April 9, 2005 at 7:33 pm #19623AnonymousInactive
New guy to this forum!
I got an invitation for the conferance, and must say I thought it was very good. Although I couldnt stay long afterwards I hope to get to know people here better through this forum and future meetings.
The game industry in Ireland has huge potential from what I have seen.
There are so many talented perople, and people with so much knowledge about games and still to few companies.
It seems like most of the talent goes over to england to work, whitch is a big shame.
Hopefully this will change with time!:)
April 10, 2005 at 11:51 am #19625
Much thanks to everyone for turning up on Friday night…we had 50 chairs out and there were still people standing which is always a good sign.
I will write a proper review when I get back up to Portrush later today but for those of you who want to know who won!!….
Newbie – Stephane Ambrosini (steph)
Stamina – Damian Furlong (Omen) with a special runners up award for Ronnie Southwood (ronny)
Salmon of Knowledge – Tony Kelly (Idora)
Humour – Peter McNally (Pete)
Gd.ie person/group of the year 05 – IGDA Ireland
Steph and Omen – I have your awards and hopefully we will get to pass them on at a future shindig…
Many thanks to our speakers on the night – things continued in McGruders, then Handels and then some late night eating establishments…think I got home around 4am!! Still life in these them bones eh..
April 10, 2005 at 12:14 pm #19626AnonymousInactive
I will really try to make it to an event in the near future.
April 10, 2005 at 2:05 pm #19628AnonymousInactive

When does the new site go live ? [/quote:ffb175c77d] some day this week
April 11, 2005 at 9:49 am #19638AnonymousInactive
See I told you how bad my memory is!!
I also think that a special award should be given to Aphra for bringing along……..THE WORLDS HEAVIEST BAG. Who’d have thought that such a small bag could induce such terrible shoulder ligament damage…..
April 11, 2005 at 10:24 am #19640
hey I was carrying around two glass awards + my house + my office…what do you expect…!
drink more Guinness!
April 11, 2005 at 10:25 am #19641AnonymousInactive
Sorry couldnt make it friday night, was all set to go friday evening but something came up and my lift cancelled (also at this stage i was too late for the train, by about 10 minutes).
hope twas a good night and many pints were consumed. hopefully should make it to the next shindig, in may i guess?
Anyone up for a visit to cork for the next one :)
April 11, 2005 at 10:36 am #19643AnonymousInactive
Drink more Guinness?
Sounds like a plan!! :D
April 11, 2005 at 11:01 am #19646
May is e3 month and start of conference season for us academics…also bank holidays at the beginning and the end which are never too good for organising shindigs.
..but hey, if we can agree on a date then great..
it also sees a month of games events in the digital hub..so tying it onto one of them might be an option..
having said that I would love to get to Cork during the year of culture…anyone down there want to try an organise or suggest a games related event – not just a shindig??
I wonder are there flights from Derry to Cork…?
April 11, 2005 at 11:11 am #19647AnonymousInactive
flight from derry to cork, i dont think there be. but there are from belfast, expensive though. pretty cheap to go derry-dublin, dublin cork via aer arann (derry leg is logan air operating for BA).
I’m sure we could organise something down here. Games which teach kids culture?? Also im sure getting one of the boole lecture theatres could be pretty easy during May because everyone will be doing exams, wayhey thank god im doing the research masters :). Might be cool to hear torc and the lot talking about the company because cork seems to be a black hole, not many people down here know about the irish games industry. Probably would be useful Aphra for you also to speak.
But i could get onto the multimedia msc and see if they wanted to open day display their recent thesis. Some i heard are games related.
Also i can definately help with recommending good pubs\clubs, can probably put 3-4 of ye up for a night or two, if ye dont mind floors, couches etc. And accomadation is cheap and very central.
April 11, 2005 at 12:50 pm #19658AnonymousInactive
Derry/Cork .. I drove that one for Awakenings.. 8hrs ! but worth it though!
you’ll be happier getting a flight if one is available :D
looking forward to the next shindig. My fingers are crossed I can make it
