I’v been trying to figure out in my head what I actually want to do for years but i keep coming back to one thing. I want to work on movies or games both at some stage if possible. I would like to get into the art side of things like 3d moddling and animation perhaps but with no formal art training i can imagine this will be a big problem for me. I dont want to just limit myself to just specific area either so this is where im running in to problems trying to put together a plan

Can anyone give me some advice on what i can do to try achieve my goal

      Thanks

First thing you need to do is decide which you want to do… 3D modelling or animation. They are very different disciplines.
If you have no training in either, then get a copy of a 3D art package and start modelling and animating to get a feel for what you want to do. If you want to do a course you should get some grounding in all areas, but you will need to specialise in one as becoming an expert in one of them will take a lot of time.

check out the Gamasutra game career guide at http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/173976/Free_2012_Game_Career_Guide_issue_available_from_Game_Developer.php#.UMdTxXcoPJM

      and the Skillset one too….http://www.creativeskillset.org/games/industry/

these will give you a sense of the different jobs and skill sets involved…

I would also head along to some GameJams and see what types of skills are involved
