You could have this board shut down for mentioning illegal downloads  Don’t you think there is enough piracy without posting on a games developement site, in my opinion if you are willing to download a movie illegally then you are just as likely to download applications, games etc etc

In fact, it seems I am not the only one to think like that. Today’s Penny Arcade (I am linking to the pic, but really, it’s the article you should read.

      Kawaaaaaaai!

I mean, subtitles, you know. Since you seem to have ordered the DVD. You can get the fansub from the Net… ahem, never mind.

      Hey frogman of frogatraz,

you shouldn’t mention the “Bit-Torrent” on these boards. Its like that episode of Fawlty Towers “Don’t mention the war…” and the dirty Germans are sitting at the table, and Basil has a concussion. ahhhh the classics ;)

Anyway, yeah, don’t mention any of that stuff or IGDA Stormtroopers will arrive at your house and kick your ass.

Really. Happened to a friend of mine. They took his thumbs as a reminder…

Ah, so it’s the same than in France then. Friend of mine mentioned “certain things” on a board: during the night the BSA sent a ninja squad, and for each illegally downloaded porn movie on his hard drive, they cut out one of his fingers in front of his whole family. True story.

Anyway, I say piracy shoud carry the death sentence. At least. Just like for watching pornography. You are so going to Hell for this

Well, that’s just like saying that people use the Internet for anything else than downloading porn. Everybody knows what you are really doing with those 20Mb/s of bandwidth. You are not fooling me, no sir!

I think the Vatican should make their position on piracy clearly known. That would really help.

Hey man, don’t bring the vatican into this. You know what they did to Fr. Jack!!!

But seeing as the Pope is a German, I’d say he’d give downloading illegal content the big thumbs-up. Every single server “my-friend” connects to has a german domain.

They really must do nothing but rip digital content and host it. I reckon its their way at gettin back at the Americans who ruined their country. TWICE.

But don’t be gettin up on your ‘high horse’ frenchman, quite a few of the servers “my-friend” connects to have a .fr extension too. Its just the french aren’t as uniform, organised, serious, efficient, and as committed as their Germanic neighbours.

After seeing it i stand by it. The film is amazing the cg is superb three times better looking than the spirits within. the score is superb with old classics from the game remixed. The story any final fantasy fan would be prod off and the action sequences are breath taking. For the last 40 mins its non stop action its simply my film off 2005…….. :D

Dave ive posted a copy up to aaron watch it and then let me know what you think..

      Fucking wow.

Square/Enix really raised the bar again.. specially for a company that doesn’t make movies per se.

It’s dynamic, it’s detailed, it’s respectful of the 7th opus of the series, it’s beautiful.

I’ll definitely buy this when the DVD edition reaches our shores…

I’m almost as excited as the time they released the last St Seiya chapter – Hades.

Film of 2005? I’m not sure but,

      Fucking wow…

Well, you’ll get an unbiased opinion once I watch it. I never played any of the FF games (well, only when I was hanging at my mates’ house), so we’ll see if the movie is still interesting without knowing anything about the games.
The thing I might be biased towards are the graphics, given how much respect I have for the Square guys. We’ll see…

If you haven’t played through the game it’s unlikely you’ll like it as there’s no back story given. Kind of like reading The Two Towers but not the Fellowship of the rings….

when is it officially out? I know certain *people* whom already have it…(they’re all cowboys up there in Donegal, I tells ya!)

But I prefer CGI masterpieces on the big-screen, so anyone know when it hits these shores?

And seeing as this is turning into Cinema Club, my brother in Chicago rang me the other day, told me to go see “Lord of War” Nicholas Cage’s new one.

Land of the Dead out on Friday, as well as Boy EATS Girl (Zombie Movie, not porn…gutter-minds yas!)

Oh yeah thats the one with Samantha Mumba in it isn’t it. Pop career not going so well anymore. I wouldn’t ming seeing a film called “Louis Walsh EATS Broken Glass” where he plays himself and does all his own stunts.

again, I must point you out to jurassipunk, for all your trailers need.
Lord of War is Nicholas Cage playing an international arms dealer. Looks awfully cool, if you ask me.

Land of the Dead I’m awaiting eagerly, as I missed it when I was back home this summer :-/ (as a side note I still wonder why so many movies are released in French before I ever see them here in their original English…)
Apparently, Simon Pegg and his writer mate have a cameo in the movie?

Aye, it’s great to see a studio cope on and stop selling out to the mainstream and just put all their money on something they know will please their audience. I find that great that they can do such a geeky thing (a fan’s wet dream of a movie) while still IMO be playing it safe.
I mean, it’s not like FFVII is some little game. It’s a freaking cult classic. Every time I read about cRPGs, FFVII gets mentioned one way or the other. Surely that means they have an audience, and surely they finally realised that this audience is the kind that has been waiting for something like that to happen for years, and will only be too happy to fork out the money…

I know if Blizzard ever want to make a similar thing in the Warcraft or Starcraft setting, I’ll be queuing along with the rest to give them my money. I still remember watching the Starcraft trailer in the game shop, over, and over, and over…

Pete : dude! at least Spirits Within was an original story AND a work of art. The same cannot be said from the vast majority of so called “blockbusters” coming out of Shittywood…
Geez, even in TV you cannot try something too different lest you scare the fucking announcers (Farscape, anyone? Firefly?)

Anyway, just saw FFVII, and it does kick major ass. I know I missed some of the chunky bits that you can appreciate so much more if you have played the game, but I couldn’t care, it was damn good. Had tears in my eyes everytime the ghost girl (Aeris, I presume) showed up. Very fucking good.
Now I just have to wait till I can buy it. Probably it’s already out in Switzerland, so it shouldn’t be too long till I get my little hands on it :)

The spirits within was a very good film many people who watched it didnt understand the story. its like any other final fantasy story. The cgi was amazing for its time just because for an animated film it wasnt a kids story like toy story our the incredibles it suffered in the big screen. Advent children isnt a kids movie so if this was to be released on the big screen it would suffer the same fate as the spirits within square done the right thing release it on dvd.

Advent Children Sells out in Japan
In just over a week of sales, Advent Children has sold over 420,000 copies in Japan, 93% of all available copies.

      nice one :)
Hopefully this should comfort Square in the fact that this is a good idea (doing a movie just for the fans, straight to DVD).
Gee, it can’t be really expansive to promote, either, just contact a few fan websites, Penny-Arcade and such, and let the Web do its magic.

Spirits Within suffered from the same problem than IMO plagued Blair Witch Project: too many “WTF moments”, if you know what I mean. And the mainstream cattle don’t like that. Oooh, big no no. SW made the assumption that its audience being mostly geeks and anime maniacs would have no problem with not being explained _everything_. In my case they were right, but sadly for them I don’t think I am part of the mainstream… hence they failed to conquer the masses. Who cares, I say make your customers happy before trying to please everybody: a simple business practice that has never failed, in my experience.

Well, chrisy boy. I just watched it and its more or less…rubbish. I mean fair enough everyone likes some eye candy, whihc the film has in abundance but the plot? and its pace? and for that matter the credabiity of the plot compaired to vii.

I admire Squares Gohnads for trying to fit 40 hours of story and history into a 90 minute film but I think in all honesty this would have benefited from less hyper-story and more calm, constructive and mildly understandable plot-lines.

But, eye candy for the win I suppose.

But thats all well and good gar lad but they didnt go out to make a remake of VII. People expect it to be the exact same as the game this is totally different the only simularity is the characters. No matter how hard Square try they would not make the movie to be like the game, games are different than films.

Its always been the same games dont make good films and films dont make great games. Advent Children is part of a compilation of VII maybe when people watch and play the compilation then it will all fit nicely into a epic conclusion.

The movie is based 2 years after the end of FF7.
Playing the game before watching the film will fill in a lot of gaps of who all the characters/story elements are etc etc.

Hopefully this film will be what i expected what the first one was gonna be(film based on the games), loved playing FF7 and hoped the film would have folowed some of the characters from the games etc (was still a good film though).

Doom as a movie personally i cant see it making it big unless they have a killer script writer.

Yeah, the game doesn’t suck. :P
Squares technical ability is fantastic, but when it comes to making good movies their track record doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Ok ok, maybe this is better than Spirits Within……but so is “Rumble in Hong Kong”.

Advent children is a technical wonder, but I don’t care what anyone tries to tell me the story telling is far to sparse and earratic to be of any effect and/or indeed of any consequence to the characters, relating to vii.

      Good film, just not great.

I dunno, I didn’t start watching FFVIIAC expecting something fantastic. After all, I haven’t played the game. So I went without the fan boy bias.
I love 3D animation, so I admit I spent the first part of the movie kinda staring and looking for errors and things that could be better.
But then I just got into it, forgot about the gaps I couldn’t fill and enjoyed the movie.
The storytelling isn’t very deep? Who cares, Gladiator’s storytelling wasn’t deep, yet it’s still a god damn good movie!

And another thing I really appreciate from the movie: it uses medium to its full potential, IMHO. It’s so completely over the top that I know somehow it’s breaking some sort of cinematic equivalent of the sound barrier. I mean, think of scenes like the Matrix, or Hero, or Crouching Tiger and all those over the top choreographic fight scenes, then push them even further: no more ropes, no more “obviously out of place” CGI (since it’s all CGI), and that’s when you start reaching the level of potential that FFVIIAC is reaching.

Man, I am so buying it for Christmas :)

      Philippe
