      Hi all,

      Just a quick question. Game UI design / programming.

      http://www.librocket.com/
      HTML/CSS based, and is C++.

      http://www.scaleform.com/
      Flash based, and more than likely C++.

      Has anyone used these tools, or similar?

      What kind of production toolchain are you using? Are there any other alternatives?

      I have posted this in the programmer thread, but would welcome any input from artists involved in UI design process.

      Regards,
      B.

      On a side note, Crysis UI and menu system was built using scaleform to my knowledge and the menus look great in that!

      Used to be a web developer and Html + CSS for a real UI sounds like the worst idea ever though at least you wont have to make Firefox and Explorer play nice :)

      As horrible as I find flash to use scaleform sounds like a winner to me. their Scale9Grid thing sounds good as when making pixel based UI’s I’ve often programmed something similar.

      A good few games in the past have used flash interpreted based UI systems. Criterion used this tech quite a bit.

      Was in Leipzig week before last talking to Dave Matthews from Monolith and he showed us how they put together the HUD and several other things for Project Origin in Flash… was very interesting.
