I was very sorry to hear about PopCap but it looks like there is some need for some local match making given that many local companies are still hiring – see our jobs section for jobs in Demonware, Zinc, Activision, Digit etc…
I wonder should we try and informally get people together towards the end of Sept..for some word of mouth info sharing etc…
Would that be useful I wonder?
I am open to suggestions
September 3, 2012 at 3:24 pm #48874AnonymousInactive
Andrea (roundcrisis) and I were just discussing organising a gamedev meetup.
I have access to a room (via work) in Temple Bar (Eustace Street) which can seat around 18 people (10 at a conferance table, 8 on sofas). It’s quite nice and people could bring their own drink.
I’ll just have to book it if people want to go ahead.
If that’s not big enough, do people have other suggestions? Isakaya is nice but it can be quite loud.
September 3, 2012 at 5:09 pm #48875AnonymousInactive
I would say lets go for it and if there are too many ppl then we can move to the Library bar (across the road)
How about next thursday the 13th?
September 3, 2012 at 5:37 pm #48876AnonymousInactive
I’d be well up for that!
Count me and Lee in for sure!
September 3, 2012 at 5:38 pm #48877AnonymousInactive
Count me and Lee in anyway! Sounds like a great idea!!!
September 3, 2012 at 5:40 pm #48878AnonymousInactive
I reckon I can drag the bitSmithers away from their computers for the evening :D
September 3, 2012 at 6:00 pm #48879AnonymousInactive
Perfect timing for this years DIT 4th year Games and new MSc students
September 3, 2012 at 6:52 pm #48880
so I think we have two events? – a meeting and then an after shindig…or am I wrong?
was the focus of the gamedev meeting to be on the indie bundle?
September 4, 2012 at 12:12 pm #48882AnonymousInactive
Yeah, we’ll have a general meeting here on Eustace Street and then head across the road for a few pints after.
I don’t think there is any particular agenda for the meeting yet, we just wanted a space where we could talk. Isakaya tended to be too load for proper conversation.
Saying that I think putting items on an agenda could be very helpful. I’m not involved with the indie bundle but maybe Paddy or Andrea have some thoughts?
Next Thursday evening, 13th September, was mentioned. How does that sound to everyone?
September 4, 2012 at 2:04 pm #48883
that evening is ok with me if we can get the room.
Probably good to have some sort of agenda..
oh and congrats to Bit Smith and BatCat on their move to new premises!
September 4, 2012 at 2:31 pm #48884AnonymousInactive
I have booked the room from 6pm on Thursday 13th September. We’ll start the meeting at 7pm.

Nice one Mark
See you all there :D
September 5, 2012 at 1:13 pm #48887AnonymousInactive
It would be really helpful to put a schedule in place for the meeting.
Would anyone like to discuss/showcase their game, or perhaps some aspect of development and/or marketing/publishing?
Any other points/ideas that people would like to raise for discussion?
Is there anything to discuss on the Irish indie bungle?
September 6, 2012 at 10:18 am #48890AnonymousInactive
I’d definitely be up for a few scoops and a meet-and-greet, and might be interested in the meeting too.
What’s the agenda for the meeting? My background is localisation and QA, so I’m happy to share my experience or answer questions if anybody’s interested…
September 6, 2012 at 12:48 pm #48891AnonymousInactive
Similarly, I know of a few roles going for QA mainly. I know most would rather stick to QA in games but if anyone is completely stuck and wants to branch out for different industry QA roles, I’ll be able to sort people out for work that way.
September 6, 2012 at 1:04 pm #48892AnonymousInactive
That sounds excellent guys.
There is no set agenda for the meeting as of yet, though there is a lot that we can discuss.
If we run out of things to talk about at the meeting, there’s always the pub. ;)
September 6, 2012 at 2:57 pm #48893AnonymousInactive
Should industry/academia relations be part of the agenda?

Hi there, I am new to the community and not working in the gaming industry at the moment. Actually, I’m new to the city and the country even! :)
But I would definitely be interested in joining if there is room for an aspiring Game Designer with ~3 years of experience in making games (casual and web games), as its always good to know the people in the industry.
Not sure if I could go for pints afterwards, but I’m definitely interested in the meeting.
Let me know if I can come, please.
Oh and by the way, one topic that could be discussed in the agenda would be how new Steam’s Greenlight had or will have an impact on indie game development.
Just my two cents.
September 10, 2012 at 11:43 am #48901
I think the only limit on joining the meeting is the size of the room!
September 10, 2012 at 11:45 am #48902AnonymousInactive
Eheheh Thanks Aphra!
However, I haven’t read anywhere if there is already a list of confirmed atendees, so the question still remains, I guess… ;)
September 10, 2012 at 11:55 am #48903AnonymousInactive
Manikore: just drop by, if we are overflown I think we ll all move to somewhere else
Looking forward to thursday
September 10, 2012 at 11:56 am #48904AnonymousInactive
Thanks, I will! :D
September 11, 2012 at 10:33 am #48911
Did we confirm where we are going after?
was it the library bar upstairs in the Central hotel?
September 12, 2012 at 10:09 am #48916AnonymousInactive
Yeah we’ll head over to the Library Bar after the meeting.
The meeting will start at 7pm at 18 Eustace Street.
We’ll be over in the bar at around 9pm I’d say, depending on what discussions are taking place.
September 12, 2012 at 1:13 pm #48917AnonymousInactive
Just putting it out there for the drinks end of things…
Pub Standards is on just up the road in the Bull and Castle. So probably chance to meet a good few other tech types and grab a few free beers!
September 12, 2012 at 1:25 pm #48918AnonymousInactive
Actually dropping by pub standards with all the gamedevs would totally make sense
Lets go there instead of the library? (There is free drink :) )
September 12, 2012 at 1:32 pm #48919
what is pub standards? will they let us all in?
September 12, 2012 at 2:30 pm #48920AnonymousInactive
That’s a fantastic idea!
Pub Standards is "a regular meetup for web designers & developers, startups & geeks."
It’s open to everyone, so I’m sure us attending won’t be a problem. I’ll get in touch with them just in case.
More info here: http://pubstandards.ie/
September 12, 2012 at 2:31 pm #48921AnonymousInactive
It’s a monthly tech/web/startup meetup. Very informal, very fun, well worth going along, and yeah it’s open to everyone so they’ll definitely let us in!
September 12, 2012 at 4:37 pm #48922
ok..let me know what they say and I can change the calendar entry on gd.ie etc.
September 12, 2012 at 10:02 pm #48923AnonymousInactive
The Pub Standard crowd would be delighted to have us drop in.
I told them we’d be down around 9pm.
September 13, 2012 at 8:50 am #48924AnonymousInactive
Hi guys, is there still room for 2 more for the meet up?
We’ve just started a games and media company called Powwow as part of NDRC Launchpad. We’d really like to get to know other people in the industry and get some advise.
September 13, 2012 at 10:12 am #48925AnonymousInactive
There still space I’d like to join. I’m working on an educational game at the moment that’s ramping up to release while I’m trying to deal with last minuite decisions.
September 13, 2012 at 10:21 am #48926AnonymousInactive
No problem guys, we’d love to see you there.
If the space we have gets too full we’ll move across to the bar early.
See you then!
September 13, 2012 at 1:37 pm #48927AnonymousInactive
Hey everyone, I signed up here just so I could post this question.
I’d love to meet up with everyone when you are all heading to the pub.
Is there anyone I could give my number to and they could get in touch with me and let me know when you are all heading there?
I’ve haven’t met up with other game developers (other than when I was in college) and I’d really like to hang out, but I’m not into the formal setting (I hate sitting in those more formal settings listening to my belly rumble the entire time lol).
My name is Stephen McVicker, I’m developing a game called ZENFORMS: Protectors for iPhone. I’ll be bringing my iPad with me to show off the game.
September 13, 2012 at 3:39 pm #48928
check you PMs…
September 14, 2012 at 9:29 am #48929
Thanks to everyone for turning up last night at both the meeting and later at the Bull and Castle. Thanks to Mark and Fantom for the refreshments
I think the meeting was very useful…
September 14, 2012 at 9:41 am #48930AnonymousInactive
Still think we missed the family photo to post here! :P
September 14, 2012 at 9:48 am #48931AnonymousInactive
Was great to meet you all. Very cozy community. Looking forward for future meetings and to be of some service.
September 14, 2012 at 10:09 am #48932AnonymousInactive
Yeah it was a great night, we should definitely meet up regularly. Once a month perhaps? I can book the board room again.
Having the "round-table" discussion was excellent.
I never even thought of taking a pic, definitely next time though!

OMG! His voice sound so awesome on Radio! :O
And the show is awesome… I’m definitely gonna follow this from now on! :P
September 14, 2012 at 11:48 am #48937AnonymousInactive
I have a few pics my mate took in the pub of people playing ZENFORMS.
I put them on my facebook but this is the only one with a few people in it:
September 14, 2012 at 12:46 pm #48938AnonymousInactive
Nice game you have there, mate.
Wish you all the best trying to get it out there.
September 15, 2012 at 10:01 am #48942AnonymousInactive
Would there be interest in organizing something similar in Galway?
September 17, 2012 at 1:57 pm #48946
