Hi all,
It’s time to arrange our February meeting and shindig.
I’m putting up a provisional date of the 26th of February, but that can be changed if there’s call to do so.
The format will be the same as previous events, with a "roundtable" discussion/meeting in Eustace Street at 7pm followed by pints in a local pub (which we should choose here) at 9pm.

I’m not sure that people would be comfortable with it being recorded, there is a lot of information passed around and some of it may be somewhat sensitive. It’s a very open forum.

The event is open to everyone.
These events are all about game development in general, the topics include things like game design, business, marketing, industry discussion. We probably will talk about the site as well.
I hope to see you there.

Fair enough, maybe minutes of the meeting could be released then to let people know what was brought up instead?
I should be grand that date to attend, if anyone has questions or is looking for specific marketing/pr/distribution/international markets advice, if i can help, I will!

yes agreed re recording. These meetings are informal meetings for sharing experiences but some are probably best kept in the room.
date good and I or Andrea can update on the last Games Ireland meeting.

In the main these meetings are for companies and lecturers of relevant game courses..and we are tight on space as it is.
what do people think about others attending?

I guess no one will be refused at the door, but as a rule of thumb we could agree that participants should have something to contribute to the discussion, be it a pressing question they need to address, ideas for collaborations, tips they want to share, or some news on development/design.
I guess games GIG on thursday and shindigs are good for introductions and starting to get involved.
Is that non-inclusive? Would just "open to everyone" be a better approach? is that even an issue outside school circles :)
Cheers,
Sergio.

Thanks to those who turned up last night on what is a busy week. The following are the key topics we discussed.
1) Cluster overview
This is the government/EI/IDA/everyone body that is meeting once a quarter to try to implement things from the Forfas action plan. Owen from Bitsmith has been invited on to it as they feel they need more indie input.2) Games Ireland and events this week
There are two Games Ireland events this week, one on Thurs co-located with Microsoft event in the Aviva and one on Friday in Windmill Lane. We believe there will be an announcement about a games incubator space. Also each meeting of games ireland now has a rotating indie representative. If you are interested in attending and are in a full time games company just drop aphra, andrea or owen a PM.3) DJIFF Guillaume event
Eventually took place last Sat 23rd and Owen from BitSmith chaired it. Since Guillaume is involved in the European Game Developers Federation (EGDF) he seems to have had some good advice for developing indie developers.4) Gd.ie redesign
Aphra noted that there had been another meeting where Dave, John and Aphra discussed options and stages of the redesign. There is a google doc that a number of people are contributing to. PM aphra if you would like to be involved5) Next meeting
It was decided that the next meeting would involve 1-3 indies discussing game design issues in current projects and others giving constructive criticism. A kind of show and tell. This will probably be in early April – more details to follow. Currently BitSmith and BatCat have games at a stage they could present. If you have too…then pm aphra6) Other
There is a entrepreneurs group on Linked In for CEO’s of local game companies. If you fit that bill – search it out.Did I miss anything? Feel free to add and comment.

Hi Aphra,
Re: 1, that’s great. I had brought that up in the December cluster meeting, and I’m glad they actually acted on it :)
