I’m delighted to announce that the IGDA Ireland steering committee has expanded, in order to better represent the growing industry on the island

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome aboard…

      Robbie Hegarty, NWFIHE (Derry)
      Mick Maguire, ex-Microsoft/MIDAS (Dundalk)
      Will Golby, TKO Software (Dublin)
      Ger Lawlor, Kapooki Games (Dublin)
      Gerry Carty, Vivendi Universal (Dublin)

Unfortunately, there’s also some bad news… It is with regret that I have to announce that Mike Griffin from Kapooki (GrifMike as he’s known hereabouts) has resigned his position on the committee due to growing personal commitments. Mike has been a stalwart friend and contributor to the industry, both before and during his involvement with IGDA Ireland, and we wish him and his family all the best for the future

Will they be joining the number one premier games development site in Ireland?

      (hint: your on it now)

Gerry Carty used to be my boss back in the Vivendo days

it is a sad day to see Mike Griffin leaving the IGDA as he has & still is an important figure through these years towards the Irish industry. Kapooki Games laid down in ways an easyer path for the rest of the new Irish game dev companies to get started up in the last few years on our little island of gamers.
      Thanks and best wishes Mike.

On the other note its great to see the chapter expanding this year. Welcome aboard !

Can we expect to see more stuff from the IGDA this year with this expanding force of talented Irish leads ?

here’s at least two big events we’ll be participating in later in the year (October & November), and the Digital Hub is running a month of events in May, which we’re advising in and participating in quite heavily

There’s also the PLAY magaizine event in Leopardstown. More news on this soon

The next Awakenings is currently being mooted for early next year – although this has yet to be decided

There’s not going to be an Awakenings ’05 then ??

Basically, there are two big events mooted in different parts of the country late in the year (October & November) and it was felt that having Awakenings at the same time – given the necessarily long lead time of such an event, it would have to be around then – wouldn’t benefit anyone. So early next year (Feb or Mar have been mooted)

I’m going to start a separate thread on Awakenings now as I want to start tapping popular opinion on a few things

Great to see the committee expanding. IGDA Ireland have had a successful year and with more force up front we should hopefully be enjoying a lot more.

Too bad that Mike has had to leave. As has been said he’s one of the industry leaders over here. On the other hand I think it’s good that he’ll be able to commit more time to his family and home life. Hopefully it’ll work out for the best for him and he’ll find a steady balance. :)

Tony, I’m loving this whole ‘mooted’ business. For some reason you and Aphra have been using it a lot lately. Very snazzy word. I expect it to be used more often by everyone. ;)

What are the 2 other big events ??? [/quote:78620fc1f3] there’s some kind of creative digital media event in October in Belfast and MIDAS in Dundalk are planning on running an event in November

hahaha….I was thinking the same thing about the “mooted”, Ronny.

You know when you say a word so many times it starts to lose its meaning, and sounds very strange in your mind…..
