a possible Google acquisition of YouTube that may be in the final stages before closing. Rumored price is $1.6 billion.

Thats a hell of a lot of money!

I think it would be a bad choice at the moment, i’d say there are so many people who have copyright lawsuits close at hand anyway in case youtube gets a ton of money or is aquired by a large company like google, so that they can sue the crap out of it over copyright issues.

If people won would they just have to strip most of youtube down to get rid of the unauthorised content?

Or is google too big to be daunted by the whole issue should they buy it.

      Wow they actually bought it

They then spent the day running around to warner, fox etc trying to get them on board so they didnt get screwed.

I’d be very worried if I was with Google right now. It shows that they couldn’t create their own quality service so they had to buy up an outsider that did succeed. On top of that, there’s the legal concerns that you mentioned, eDen.

I think Google should focus on consolidating what they have before they over-expand.

Buying out a competitor who does something better (or at least have a bigger share of the pie) is hardly a reason to be worried, Microsoft has been doing it for years….

I wonder does the acquisition have anything to do with the big M entering the online video sector. It’ll be interesting to see what ramifications it has on the future of Google’s own video(no doubt we’ll soon be able to search YouTube from within google) also what bearing it’ll have on the Google /Apple(iTV) rumours.
