InactiveI wonder what others think is the greatest game ever made ever. In my opinion, Super Mario Bros. 3 has to be without question the greatest game ever made ever and I have something to back up that claim, if you look up Mario Bros. 3 on Wikipedia you’ll find an article stating that it was entered into the Guiness World Book of Records as the biggest selling game ever and none made since have come close to breaking that record

If biggest sales = greatest game ever made, then we’d have had to limit choice to EA products  …but since SM3 is already stated the greatest, well… pointless replying to the thread, innit?!?
otherwise, mmm… gotta be Elite. Not that young’uns these days would have any clue as to why

InactiveHmmm hard one. Max Payne 2, or Final Fantasy 7. Never a big fan of either zelda or mario games….was always more of a sonic guy.

InactiveMax Payne 2??????????
Ok, to each there own……..but the game isn’t as good as the first in my opinion. Its way too short also!
The physics do rock in it though. I enjoyed it a lot, but I wouldn’t put it in my top 30 let alone no 1! But like I said, to each their own!! :D -

InactiveHrm, Max Payne/Max Payne2 would probably be in my Top 30 though. Theyre not my fave games but they were one of the most enjoyable series I’ve played in ages. Should be interesting to see what they do with the third game.

InactiveI dont know something about it just makes me play it over and over again. The only other game I’ve done that with is FarCry. I tried playing through Half Life 2 a second time but got bored half way through.

InactiveFarCry is a class game. Although I’m preferred the beginning levels before the mutant things were introduced. Lost some fun after that.
Sort of like the way Halo lost some of its appeal when the flood were introduced. I guess I just prefer my enemies to be somewhat more humanoid! ;) -

InactivePresonal gripe with the flood: The hundreds of small little feckers – you didnt have tohit them at all to make them explode :( I ended up seeing how far away from them I could aim and have it still count as a ‘hit’

Inactive28K’s worth of williams defender – suspended disbelief with 2D scrolling hyperspaced smart bombed pixels – no plot, no backstory, no nuttin just instant mutant mirdering fun!
Rentless gameplay engagement that has never been surpassed. halo, MOH, half life, deux ex, max pyane, MGS, AOM, Quake, tomb raider, unreal, crash, System shock, doom, wolfensteen, mario, privateer – just feckin stories or cartoons with joysticks attached – not actually pure and proper games in the mould of tetris and defender.
there that should start it (-:

Inactivewell, i’d be lying if i said i wasn’t fan of sonic but in all honesty Mario Bros. 3 is the greatest game ever made… my greatest game ever anyways. wouldn’t it be weird though if they made a new Mario game with all the traits of a classic Mario game? i think that would be challenging y’know floating ? blocks and super powers.
and yes gizmo, you are only allowed to have one.

InactiveSuper Mario 3, Ocarina of Time, Mortal Kombat 2, Burnout 3, Quake and Quake 3, Age of Empires 2 and I can’t believe nobody has even mentioned the most popular spreadsheet of all time Football Manager.
Check out http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/bestworst.asp
for the average rating of games based on their review scores on different sites. Not a hint ( shockingly ) of Mario 3. His younger brother Mario 64 sits at number 3 while Zelda looks down on all apparently. -

InactiveIndiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. I loved that frickin game, really was at the cutting edge when it first came out on the PC.
Of recent times I’d have to say Burnout 3.

Well if you limit it to pure games, id have to say Gran Turismo on the original playstation. Just pure class and perfection. I’ve never spent so much time on a game before or since then. Those endurance races really spring to mind…
If i was going for a story driven game, than itd be Broken Sword just edging out MGS.

InactiveI know goldeneye did it all first but N64 Perfect Dark did it better. If I was picking a zelda I would be torn between link to the past and ocarina, definitely replayed ocarina more.
But no, my favourite game of all time is probably Secret of Mana on the SNES

InactiveThe greatest game ever, hmmm, it would have to be Wolfenstein 3D as it kicked off the whole FPS thing for the masses really, its an idea that was copied relentlessly now.
otherwise, mmm… gotta be Elite. Not that young’uns these days would have any clue as to why Wink[/quote:0005074719]
Elite – First game to use 3D graphics i think? Its one of those “trading” games anyhow.
Personally, i’d rate Splinter Cell as the greatest game ever, its the only game i’ve played where i’ve actually said “woaaaah!” out loud while playing.
