“Of the male gamers who participated in the study, about 40 percent said that in-game ads made a game more appealing, and made them more inclined to buy the advertised product.”

In game ads are definitely a good thing. They add a sense of realism and down-to-earthedness (obviously only in a game that suits their presence).

      Dave (one of ~40%)

I understand they add to realism – ‘but they make a game more appealing’?

So without the adverts a game would be less appealing…a lack of product placement or real adverts hasn’t seemed to hurt GTA’s appeal. Infact I would say it is stronger for creating its own products

oh, pogo the monkey – you little scamp

Anywho this will be irrelevant soon, when all games are crammed full of adverts :p

GTA SA has some heaving branding within the game but it’s integrated with the overall experience very nicely… that’s the key I think!

With at GTA (havn’t tried SA yet) creating their own fictional brands was a lot cooler as it made them a lot more open to satire. They couldn’t have made fun of the uselessness of a SUV in urban areas if they had used an existing vehicle.
