Inactivelet’s just say, as a judge for the awards, I had no control over who got to enter… but the final results were a fair reflection of the talent and hard work involved!
In other words, Nephin Games took home the award for Best Digital Games Developer of the Year – and well deserved it was too
Congrats to Alan Duggan and associates for a job well done

InactiveDid Havok win?[/quote:aebe6d538c] afraid not… they were in some weird category and nominated for Halo 2. I suspect the judges of that category hadn’t got a clue what they were looking at – but I could be wrong

Havok were in ‘Digital Post-Production’ – which does seem a bit strange alright, but I know the organisers wanted the games category reserved for indigenous Irish companies this year, i.e. no Microsoft nominations for games that were localised here but developed elsewhere, as happend previously – and Havok don’t qualify for the games category per se, as it falls under the Content heading. Instead they were put under Creativity
(Let’s try and avoid the obvious argument of why the Content and Creativity categories are separate, shall we? :))

It would be a bit ridiculous for Microsoft Ireland to get a game development award for localising a game. Glad they changed that.
Maybe there should be an award for middleware?

Glad they changed that.[/quote:2255001e65] they did last year, first time games were included in these awards. (Don’t think it was for best Game Developer though – I think Eirplay won that, didn’t they? It’s probably on the site). There was a bit of stink about it afterwards (rightly so), which was why they asked the IGDA to get involved this year

I suppose the use of their physics plug-ins in 3D modelling/animation packages traditionally used to develop games but increasingly also used for movie/video special effects would qualify them under the ‘Post-Production’ heading, no?
