As the article and interview state, it seems Mr. Carmack isn’t overly excited about the Cell. Sure he makes the point that the PS3 has more peak performance than the XBox360 but how many titles are really going to take advantage of this remains to be seen. We’ve heard it all really but when it’s coming from someone like this I tend to pay more attention…
Sooner all the consoles are out the better, I’m growing tired of the different camps attempting to be little each other. In the end it’ll be the titles that decide the winner.[/quote:a9b010f44f]
I’m afraid that since the Dreamcast, you can’t go saying that it all depends on the games.
I wouldn’t of said the Dreamcast had a strong catalog. Each of the consoles of this generation have their own merits and failings so it’d be because of that I would guess it’ll be the games that set them apart. Though I do have to concede the importance of strong marketing.
All ive heard about the PS3 is that its far easier to build on the 360’s devkits, and i saw an article similar to that one, where Carmac noted that this was something plagueing the minds of many studios at the time.
Bring back commander keen John!
