Well here we are, June bank holiday weekend near upon us and what have we done? What have we to show for the year? What contributions have you made to the games industry in Ireland? What do you intend to do this coming year?
Dont post here with your replys! NO NO NO!
There is a weekends fun and games to be had in Donegal. Malin Head, right on the tip top of Ireland, will play host to WoodStorc – the largest gathering of Irish games industry people to conglomerate outside the capital ever!*
There is a hostel and B&Bs availble and pre booked for those wishing to attend and become part of this exciting new festival of drunken banter about games and the like.
If you can get to Derry on Saturday one of the WoodsTorc chauffeurs will drive you to your destination and leave you back for the bus/train/flight on Monday.
“So whats on offer?” I hear you say – well beer music and craic, what else?!?!
On saturday there will be fine food available to start the evening followed by fine wines and a gig in the famous (yes seriously) Mc Grorys of Culdaff. From there till the wee hours and a bed at Malin Head… spectacular scenery by the way!
On Sunday a bit of sightseeing in the afternoon. Activities such as “back to the bar” and “Order a beer” will provide a hair of the dog like no other for those willing and able. Then into the night like the proverbial social butterfly.
All game development types are welcome. Just send a mail to john”at”torcinteractive.com before Wednesday the 2nd June stating saturday, sunday or both and how many will be coming and we’ll look after the rest.
Its simple, its fun and you know it makes sense – ITS WOODSTORC! Miss it at your peril!
Torc accept no responsibility for ANYTHING – EVER!
*This may be a lie.

I heard there were going to be a number of very fit and fine looking guys getting into wet suits and surfing the waves…can you confirm this rumour??
May 28, 2004 at 2:09 pm #12393AnonymousInactive
There could well be a bit of surfing on Sunday alright.
I’m certainly planning on getting into a wetsuit regardless of how fir or fine I may be. More to keep the beer spillage from ruining my stylee though…
May 31, 2004 at 8:30 am #12395
all I will say is there will be more women is you promote the wet suits more!!
May 31, 2004 at 12:20 pm #12404AnonymousInactive
A donegal shindig this weekend you say? I’m there! Expect an e-mail soon.
The surfing thing depends entirely on the weather – though if rubbery skin tight suits are all you care about I’m sure we could convince a few of the lads to do something.
May 31, 2004 at 12:22 pm #12405
I hope to drive from Dublin on the Friday afternoon if anyone wants a lift..can take one normal sized person in the front and two people with short legs in the back…(small car!)
PS any chance we could get driving directions??
May 31, 2004 at 1:23 pm #12406AnonymousInactive
Unfortunately, I won’t be in a position to make this one but if anyone wants to make a pitstop on Friday/Sunday in Carrickmacross en-route, do give me a shout.
Te/Coffee for Drivers, (beer for passengers!), and use of facilities on offer!
May 31, 2004 at 1:58 pm #12407AnonymousInactive
Basically if you can get to Derry then we can sort you out from there. The bus from Bus Aras is very handy and travels several times a day – expect it to take around 4hours.
Of course you can arrive from any direction if you so wish (Cavan – Letterkenny etc), but Derry is the shortest route to Inishowen (the part of Donegal with Malin Head in it).
This is the route I always take and is very close to any bus route heading to Derry.
Get to Monaghan via Ardee (use motorway or take N2 via slane), Carrickmacross, Castleblayney.
Take a break and eat.
Start out at Monaghan
Follow signs Derry N2
Go through Emyvale
Turn left at end of road (signposted Omagh).
5 minutes later, turn right at end of road, this goes onto a round about, take the first left up a hill.
Arrive at edge of Omagh and take a left at Traffic lights, there will be a sign for Strabane. Keep straight on this road (through several traffic lights and round abouts) and continue onto Strabane.
At the edge of Strabane, take a left at a round-about and continue on straight in a similar fashion to Omagh. Look for signs to Derry.
Arrive in Derry – head left over the blue bridge, take a right at the end and look for the bus depot/shopping centre, whever you arrange to meet etc.
I’ll arrange someone or myself to meet people in Derry and we can take it from there. There hopefully won’t be a need for cars when you arrive, so don’t be frightened of bussing it up.

This is a map of Malin Head, there is a house booked for Saturday and Sunday night at the point “Carnmalin” – the important thing about this is that its .5 miles away from the “Crossroads inn”.
The Sandrock Holiday Hostel is also very close (1.2 miles) from the “Crossroads inn”, and will suffice as a release valve incase we need it.
This is a pictur of Ireland. It has an arrow which points to Inishowen. It also amusingly notes Carndonagh as an important place in the same league as “Dublin”, “Galway” & “Cork”. Everyone knows there are only two important places in Inishowen, the first being “Muff” and the second being “The Crossroads Inn”.
If anyone has any more questions please do shout!
May 31, 2004 at 2:13 pm #12409
thanks Greenbean….I know my way to both Derry and Cardonagh so I reckon this car should make it ok..
May 31, 2004 at 2:23 pm #12410AnonymousInactive
W:DW At last the perfect opportunity to spend a weekend in Donegal, for some of us this comes but once a week!! Count me in! I’ve rang ahead and reserved a high chair with a moulded arse groove in the Crossroads Inn and a spill proof bib as a precautionary measure…
Off to the cliffs with us!! :)
May 31, 2004 at 3:01 pm #12411AnonymousInactive
Has anyone heard from Skyclad? Isn’t there a big dance competition this weekend??
May 31, 2004 at 3:15 pm #12412AnonymousInactive
If there’s any waves on the Saturday or Sunday we can fill up a car or two and head for the beach. Thing is, it being summer and all, the waves will probably be about 6 inches high – i.e. not good. Damn this fine weather!
We’ll see how it goes though. If anyone has a wet suit / surf board / boogie board / inflatable banana they should bring it with them just in case.
There’s 3 surf boards, a boogie board and 3 wet suits up here. We can take turns with those or there are some places around where we could rent gear if there’s enough interest.
A trip to the beach might be a bit of craic anyhow, maybe a game of footie or nudist volleyball?
And sure if it’s flat or raining we can just surf on the wave of alcohol flowing at the Crossroads Inn.
June 1, 2004 at 10:57 am #12422AnonymousInactive
Lets go there on saturday night.
June 1, 2004 at 12:23 pm #12424Jamie McKeymaster
Well booze and wetsuits don’t go very well from my scuba diving experience, especially when you have to share one after someone has ‘warmed themselves up’ while in the water :)
June 1, 2004 at 12:30 pm #12425AnonymousInactive
Mmmmmmmmmmm scuba diving in beer :p ……..
Shit did I type that, or just think it????

Sadly, poor Dave is off dancing elsewhere this weekend and Kerry/Donegal are a little too far apart to drop in for a quick pint. However it seems that most of the regular troupe will be in attendance, and with the promise of some tunes composed especially for the event, I cant fail to see all the attendees getting horribly plastered and stumbling home / towards the gutter / into a river.
Have a good weekend folks.
June 1, 2004 at 1:16 pm #12427AnonymousInactive
We’ll miss you Dancin’ Dave, I even heard that Tony was going to bring an dust-free anti-static mat from Intel for you to twinkle your toes on. Ah well, see you next time (in the gutter)
June 2, 2004 at 7:23 am #12430AnonymousInactive
Right, as sickened as I am to say this, I haven’t been on the forums for quite a few days so only noticed this post this morning. So I just emailed John there now and I hope it isn’t too late to sign up for… ahem… WOODSTORC! ;)
Hopefully I’ll see you guys there. :)
June 2, 2004 at 8:05 am #12431AnonymousInactive
the important thing about this is that its .5 miles away from the “Crossroads inn”[/quote:17d6417293] glad to see the priorities are all in order
I’ve rang ahead and reserved a high chair with a moulded arse groove in the Crossroads Inn and a spill proof bib as a precautionary measure… [/quote:17d6417293] my man, pete – always thinking ahead!!
We’ll miss you Dancin’ Dave, I even heard that Tony was going to bring an dust-free anti-static mat from Intel for you to twinkle your toes on[/quote:17d6417293] couldn’t manage the high-end accessories – but have an old piece of cardboard standing by, for those all-important headspins… if i remember correctly, the “Crossroads inn” is a little small, so there be won’t be enough room for Dave’s signature move – the Michael Flatley Knee Slide…
June 2, 2004 at 11:15 am #12439AnonymousInactive
Excellent, count me in,
Like I was saying to Tony, I am taking the motor so if any one needs lift or owt giz a shout,
hmm… wetsuit or speedo’s, wetsuit or speedo ‘s
gotta stop typing!!!!
June 2, 2004 at 11:31 am #12440AnonymousInactive
the Michael Flatley Knee Slide…[/quote:8ace96e6e0]
LOL I can just picture Daves feet of flames tearing across the floor to a roar of “SHORYUKEN“!!!
June 2, 2004 at 11:32 am #12442AnonymousInactive
i have seen him in action (your kitchen floor, in fact, pete) and it is truly a sight to behold
June 2, 2004 at 12:00 pm #12443AnonymousInactive
For anyone looking to rest their liver on the Sunday, myself and John are thinking about taking the foyle car ferry from Moville to Magilligan and then driving to the Giant’s Causeway. It’s a nice auld drive and there’s a load of really good beaches along the way to stop off for ice-cream and soda pop.
If there’s waves we can rent surf boards and wetsuits in Trogg’s Surf Shop in Portrush. They have a web cam of the strand in portrush here: http://www.westbaysurfboards.co.uk/
Looking at the weather charts and stuff I reckon there’s a chance of some waves this weekend alright.
I’m gonna send Trogg’s an email about renting gear and maybe getting lessons. So I can get numbers, who’d be interested in giving it a whack?
Not you though Pete, we need you to prop up the bar in the Crossroads Inn :p
P.S. To avoid any unnecessary drowning you should ideally be able to swim a bit.
June 2, 2004 at 12:21 pm #12444AnonymousInactive
Sounds Good, count me in,
have a wetsuit, not to sure about the swimming bit:D
probably be more sinking than swimming LOL
June 2, 2004 at 2:05 pm #12450AnonymousInactive
And for me there’ll probably be more drinking than swimming. There are a few decent bars in Portrush I think, although its a few years since I was last there, so we might head along too rather than split everybody up. Shenanigans has a pool table and the Station Bar has good Guinness. I know a lad from there I’ll get the scoop on good places to go.
June 3, 2004 at 8:54 am #12458
I can recommend the icecream in Morelli’s in PortStewart after my trip up this week!
June 3, 2004 at 1:01 pm #12463AnonymousInactive
June 3, 2004 at 2:15 pm #12464AnonymousInactive
Yep, I’ll be there and all. Though I’ll probably spend most of my time chilling out on the beach studying rather than following Pete’s lead and getting full in the pub. :D
Out of curiosity, what is this bank holiday for? Any particular celebrations going on down south?
June 4, 2004 at 3:40 pm #12489
no reason that I know of..banks don’t like to work much so that might be a clue..not that we are going to complain ..
see you all tomorrow..
June 8, 2004 at 9:37 am #12496
Well survived the weekend up north just about…what a whirlwind! Thanks to John and all in Torc for organising accommodation, day trips, alcohol and dancing. Had a look at the pics last night and they tell the tale…will post some of them later today. All I can say is that statue of Mary features highly in a lot of them.!
PS Ronny – best of luck in your final set of exams this week..
June 8, 2004 at 9:49 am #12497AnonymousInactive
We’ve been pouring over the snaps here in the office….OH MY GOD!!!!! I’ll send ’em your way Aphra later on when we’ve collected/photoshopped/censored them!!! It was an excellent weekend, thanks to all who came along and a big shout out to John for organising. Oh and Good Luck Ronny!!!
June 8, 2004 at 10:07 am #12498AnonymousInactive

June 8, 2004 at 10:52 am #12502AnonymousInactive

June 8, 2004 at 11:56 am #12506AnonymousInactive
And here’s the complete lyrics to the Torc barber shop quartet’s famous traditional Irish folk song. Mary mother of Malin Head preserve us!
They come over here
And they take all our land
They chop off our heads
And they boil them in oil
Our children are leaving
And we have no heads
We drink and we sing
And we drink and we die
We have no heads
We have no heads
They come over here
And they chop off our legs
They cut off our hands
And put nails in our eyes
O’Grady is dead
And O’Hanrahan’s gone
We drink and we die
And continue to drink
They buried O’Neill
Down in country Shillhame
The poor children crying
And fe dee din de
Hin fle di dinfle
Di din fle de din de
In hey bibble bibble
Hey bibble bibble
Hey fle bibble de
We drink and we sing
And we drink and we sing
We drink and we drive
And we puke and we drink
We drink and we fight
And we bleed and we cry
We puke and we smoke
And we drink and we die
June 8, 2004 at 1:42 pm #12513
Chris…where were you when I needed a lyricist at the weekend!
June 8, 2004 at 2:02 pm #12517AnonymousInactive
It’s from a Dennis Leary tune called Traditional Irish Folk Song. I tried to get him to come along for the weekend but he told me to “save yir breath fir collin yir porridge”. Maybe we could get The Hoff to sing us a bar at Oktoberfest though?
June 8, 2004 at 2:34 pm #12521AnonymousInactive
Just wanted to thank john for arranging the weekend.

June 14, 2004 at 2:56 pm #12709AnonymousInactive

Your all a little strange really, aren’t ye.
June 14, 2004 at 3:56 pm #12717AnonymousInactive
Oh bloody hell, what will Pete do next to keep that song drummed in our heads? Watch out for his new forum signature or perhaps going as far to find to a way to sneak it into the new Torc game. ;)
I felt the only thing I could do is replace one awful set of lyrics in your mind with another.
Agadoo doo doo push pineapple shake the tree
Agadoo doo doo push pineapple grind coffee
To the left to the right jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night sing with a hula melody
June 14, 2004 at 4:52 pm #12720AnonymousInactive
That song is a bona fide work of genius. Long may it remain stuck in everyones head. (and long may Dennis O leary continue to visit Killarney every year on holidays – another man truly ahead of his time).
June 15, 2004 at 10:22 am #12733AnonymousInactive
Hear hear. It may surprise many of you that with all the action we packed into the weekend, myself and Aaron managed to squeeze in a round of golf. I do use the word “golf” in it’s loosest possible sense; driving cans off the jetty in Moville and sending ’em seaward…..
June 17, 2004 at 2:44 pm #12820AnonymousInactive
White Audi, one careful owner, low mileage, new tyres, excellent condition. Contact Wild Bill Mc Daid, c/o The SeaView Inn, Malin, Co. Donegal. Offers in excess of 19 pints of Stella. No timewasters please.

June 18, 2004 at 6:26 am #12831AnonymousInactive
Grass. Hills. the Holy mother(I think), and lots of demented animals!… lads don’t show anyone else these pic’s, for obvious fear of being locked up,permanantly!
