InactiveWell here we are, June bank holiday weekend near upon us and what have we done? What have we to show for the year? What contributions have you made to the games industry in Ireland? What do you intend to do this coming year?
Dont post here with your replys! NO NO NO!
There is a weekends fun and games to be had in Donegal. Malin Head, right on the tip top of Ireland, will play host to WoodStorc – the largest gathering of Irish games industry people to conglomerate outside the capital ever!*
There is a hostel and B&Bs availble and pre booked for those wishing to attend and become part of this exciting new festival of drunken banter about games and the like.
If you can get to Derry on Saturday one of the WoodsTorc chauffeurs will drive you to your destination and leave you back for the bus/train/flight on Monday.
“So whats on offer?” I hear you say – well beer music and craic, what else?!?!
On saturday there will be fine food available to start the evening followed by fine wines and a gig in the famous (yes seriously) Mc Grorys of Culdaff. From there till the wee hours and a bed at Malin Head… spectacular scenery by the way!
On Sunday a bit of sightseeing in the afternoon. Activities such as “back to the bar” and “Order a beer” will provide a hair of the dog like no other for those willing and able. Then into the night like the proverbial social butterfly.
All game development types are welcome. Just send a mail to john”at”torcinteractive.com before Wednesday the 2nd June stating saturday, sunday or both and how many will be coming and we’ll look after the rest.
Its simple, its fun and you know it makes sense – ITS WOODSTORC! Miss it at your peril!
Torc accept no responsibility for ANYTHING – EVER!
*This may be a lie.

InactiveThere could well be a bit of surfing on Sunday alright.
I’m certainly planning on getting into a wetsuit regardless of how fir or fine I may be. More to keep the beer spillage from ruining my stylee though…

InactiveA donegal shindig this weekend you say? I’m there! Expect an e-mail soon.
The surfing thing depends entirely on the weather – though if rubbery skin tight suits are all you care about I’m sure we could convince a few of the lads to do something.

InactiveHi All
Unfortunately, I won’t be in a position to make this one but if anyone wants to make a pitstop on Friday/Sunday in Carrickmacross en-route, do give me a shout.
Te/Coffee for Drivers, (beer for passengers!), and use of facilities on offer!

InactiveBasically if you can get to Derry then we can sort you out from there. The bus from Bus Aras is very handy and travels several times a day – expect it to take around 4hours.
Of course you can arrive from any direction if you so wish (Cavan – Letterkenny etc), but Derry is the shortest route to Inishowen (the part of Donegal with Malin Head in it).
For cars:
This is the route I always take and is very close to any bus route heading to Derry.Get to Monaghan via Ardee (use motorway or take N2 via slane), Carrickmacross, Castleblayney.
Take a break and eat.
Start out at Monaghan
Follow signs Derry N2Go through Emyvale
Arrive Aughnacloy
Turn left at end of road (signposted Omagh).5 minutes later, turn right at end of road, this goes onto a round about, take the first left up a hill.
Arrive at edge of Omagh and take a left at Traffic lights, there will be a sign for Strabane. Keep straight on this road (through several traffic lights and round abouts) and continue onto Strabane.
At the edge of Strabane, take a left at a round-about and continue on straight in a similar fashion to Omagh. Look for signs to Derry.
Arrive in Derry – head left over the blue bridge, take a right at the end and look for the bus depot/shopping centre, whever you arrange to meet etc.
I’ll arrange someone or myself to meet people in Derry and we can take it from there. There hopefully won’t be a need for cars when you arrive, so don’t be frightened of bussing it up.

Inactivehttp://www.inishowenonline.com/malin_head_map.htm
This is a map of Malin Head, there is a house booked for Saturday and Sunday night at the point “Carnmalin” – the important thing about this is that its .5 miles away from the “Crossroads inn”.
The Sandrock Holiday Hostel is also very close (1.2 miles) from the “Crossroads inn”, and will suffice as a release valve incase we need it.
http://www.inishowenonline.com/map.htm
This is a pictur of Ireland. It has an arrow which points to Inishowen. It also amusingly notes Carndonagh as an important place in the same league as “Dublin”, “Galway” & “Cork”. Everyone knows there are only two important places in Inishowen, the first being “Muff” and the second being “The Crossroads Inn”.
If anyone has any more questions please do shout!

InactiveW:DW At last the perfect opportunity to spend a weekend in Donegal, for some of us this comes but once a week!! Count me in! I’ve rang ahead and reserved a high chair with a moulded arse groove in the Crossroads Inn and a spill proof bib as a precautionary measure…
Off to the cliffs with us!! :)

InactiveIf there’s any waves on the Saturday or Sunday we can fill up a car or two and head for the beach. Thing is, it being summer and all, the waves will probably be about 6 inches high – i.e. not good. Damn this fine weather!
We’ll see how it goes though. If anyone has a wet suit / surf board / boogie board / inflatable banana they should bring it with them just in case.
There’s 3 surf boards, a boogie board and 3 wet suits up here. We can take turns with those or there are some places around where we could rent gear if there’s enough interest.
A trip to the beach might be a bit of craic anyhow, maybe a game of footie or nudist volleyball?
And sure if it’s flat or raining we can just surf on the wave of alcohol flowing at the Crossroads Inn.

InactiveSadly, poor Dave is off dancing elsewhere this weekend and Kerry/Donegal are a little too far apart to drop in for a quick pint. However it seems that most of the regular troupe will be in attendance, and with the promise of some tunes composed especially for the event, I cant fail to see all the attendees getting horribly plastered and stumbling home / towards the gutter / into a river.
Have a good weekend folks.
Dave

Hopefully I’ll see you guys there. :)

We’ll miss you Dancin’ Dave, I even heard that Tony was going to bring an dust-free anti-static mat from Intel for you to twinkle your toes on[/quote:17d6417293] couldn’t manage the high-end accessories – but have an old piece of cardboard standing by, for those all-important headspins… if i remember correctly, the “Crossroads inn” is a little small, so there be won’t be enough room for Dave’s signature move – the Michael Flatley Knee Slide…

InactiveFor anyone looking to rest their liver on the Sunday, myself and John are thinking about taking the foyle car ferry from Moville to Magilligan and then driving to the Giant’s Causeway. It’s a nice auld drive and there’s a load of really good beaches along the way to stop off for ice-cream and soda pop.
If there’s waves we can rent surf boards and wetsuits in Trogg’s Surf Shop in Portrush. They have a web cam of the strand in portrush here: http://www.westbaysurfboards.co.uk/
Looking at the weather charts and stuff I reckon there’s a chance of some waves this weekend alright.I’m gonna send Trogg’s an email about renting gear and maybe getting lessons. So I can get numbers, who’d be interested in giving it a whack?
Not you though Pete, we need you to prop up the bar in the Crossroads Inn :p
P.S. To avoid any unnecessary drowning you should ideally be able to swim a bit.

InactiveAnd for me there’ll probably be more drinking than swimming. There are a few decent bars in Portrush I think, although its a few years since I was last there, so we might head along too rather than split everybody up. Shenanigans has a pool table and the Station Bar has good Guinness. I know a lad from there I’ll get the scoop on good places to go.

InactiveAnd here’s the complete lyrics to the Torc barber shop quartet’s famous traditional Irish folk song. Mary mother of Malin Head preserve us!
They come over here
And they take all our land
They chop off our heads
And they boil them in oilOur children are leaving
And we have no heads
We drink and we sing
And we drink and we dieWe have no heads
We have no headsThey come over here
And they chop off our legs
They cut off our hands
And put nails in our eyesO’Grady is dead
And O’Hanrahan’s gone
We drink and we die
And continue to drinkO’Hanrahan
No O’HanrahanThey buried O’Neill
Down in country Shillhame
The poor children crying
And fe dee din de
Hin fle di dinfle
Di din fle de din de
In hey bibble bibble
Hey bibble bibble
Hey fle bibble deO’Hanrahan
No O’HanrahanWe drink and we sing
And we drink and we sing
Hey!We drink and we drive
And we puke and we drink
Hey!We drink and we fight
And we bleed and we cry
Hey!We puke and we smoke
And we drink and we die
