InactiveA Mr. Kilroy was in for an interview with Ericssons, he mentioned my name, and gamedevelopers.ie I believe. Just wondering how he got on. I checked the listings but have no idea what his username is.

Yep, I had an interview yesterday for Ericsson and yes I mentioned this board and yes I mentioned your name Ronan among the people who I knew of working there (in you case in conjunction with the GD.ie reference) … hope you all dont mind! :D
It came up as part of the “have you thought about what you want to do after college” question. So with my reply centering around the games industry I mentioned GD.ie, the Dare competition and my intention to go to Abertay when I’m finished.
I had intended asking you about it this evening Ronan as I got a call this morning informing me I had gotten the job. :D
The interview went great actually. Well it was strange as it was my first proper interview and the guy sitting in with Joan went quite indepth into my course and the projects I had done. It was refreshing, however, to be able to discuss my course and the Networking society I’m involved without having to kind of dumb it down.

InactiveNo worries I was just wondering how you got on in the interview, I was talking to Joan last night (we play football on monday nights). Congrats on the job.
The interview process can be rather tough here, I remember mine. They asked if i knew Java, I told them only the day before an assignment. They then listed a bunch of techs that they used and asked me if I knew them. Needless to say I knew none of them :D . And dont get me started about the exam, I spent 20 mins looking at it, when they walked in I ticked boxes for all the answers  . Hey I openly admitted I knew little about java….
Now Im a developer..
Again congrats on the job, and when do you start? Any idea what department you will be working in?
I will be moving out to the prefabs on friday. We were not moved out because they left the air conditioning off all weekend and the glue caused some crazy fumes…
Anyway see you around campus.

InactiveThanks a mill! :D
The questions I was asked were more theory based. There were even some I was expecting to come up on our OO exam next week! My understanding of inheritance, the difference between software engineering and programming, define polymorphism, advantages of C++ over Java etc..
Test? I didnt have to sit one actually. It was funny actually, a friend of mine also went for a job there, he’s doing Commerce however so he walses in and comes out about 5 mins later smiling saying it was easy and there was hardly any questioning. I then go in and 20mins later I emerge…not smiling!
My first language is Java however so I would have been slightly more comfortable with a test on it! :DI’m due to start on June 7th with the other students, really looking forward to it to be honest. Not sure what I’ll be doing exactly, details should be in the contract I’ll be getting soon…otherwise it’ll be a case of wait and see!
Heh, yea I was really impressed with the interior of the building, I did notice the prefabs on teh way out though. I’m assuming they’re in place until the rest of the construction is completed?
