ya, i have it. its no great differance. i am still using max 7. the function that allows it to select vertices, edges and polys is just annoying. whether or not it runs on the school computers is another problem.

ya, have crysis too. the demo has the editor fully working in it.

there is no functional differances between max seven, and any later edition. when you eventually upgrade to 2008, you will get pro-booliens, which is the same as booliens only it splits the mesh more cleanly, and pelt mapping, a very good unwrap tool which is a good help on more organic models such as faces etc. thats about all really, from a game point of view.

i think its quite good, as far as game play and rendering goes. the story is tacky as fuck. and the "super suit" is lame. its a system killer though. i can run it, everything on medium. it mostly runs ok. but a bit glitchy. but it is beautiful. far better than anything i have seen outdoors so far.

The past few releases have been all about stability. The guys at Autodesk have fixed a massive number of bugs based on the crash submissions sent in by users (they DO actually read them!) The 64bit versions are actually worth their salt too,I’ve just come off a project that really tested this in production. I suppose most noteworthy in Max 2008 is that finally we have real-time viewport shadows, an excellent configurable scene explorer, a few amazing updates to Mental Ray (ambient occlusion that takes into account the colours of neighbouring objects) and even more stability.

Pro Booleans is based off the incredible N-Power Boolean system, and not Max’s native buggy mesh mangler, and does an amazing job, this can be a real time saver, especially if you have to lash out high res meshes for normal maps etc.
