Video Game ‘Max Payne’ To Be Adapted
[Monday, June 27th, 2005]
The action video game Max Payne is to be adapted for the big screen, according to the Hollywood Reporter.Released on PC in July 2001 and later that fall on Xbox and PlayStation 2, Max Payne tells the story of a New York cop whose wife and baby are killed by thugs high on a designer drug called Valkyr. Devastated, the cop joins the Drug Enforcement Agency and goes undercover with the mob to find the source of the drug. Framed for the murder of his partner and hunted down by both the mob and the police, he is forced to wage a one-man war against crime. The game’s intricate film noir story, which involves government cover-ups, the Mafia and a city crippled by the century’s worst blizzard, is told through comic book-style storyboards.
In other game-to-movie news it seems Wes Craven will not direct American Mc Gee’s Alice although he is closely involved in the production. Marcus Nispel will instead direct of Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake fame.

Definitly something to keep on eye on!
I’d like to see Thomas Jane maybe as Payne, he was the whole tortured soul thing going on since The Punisher. With the right director I think he could really shine….
btw…best. name. ever.

Yes but let’s hope he doesn’t get the role in the film….
Incidentally I’m just waiting for them to make a film based on centipede, or PAC-Man or even Tetris!!!

I dont think Johnny KNoxville would be too bad as Max Payne, he would have to certainly play it seriously. But Johnny has been in some good films. I cant even think of the name of the film (But he buries an old music buddy) That film was pretty good

To be honest I’ve only seen him in MIB 2 and Jackass:The Movie…. if you count that. I don’t know though if he’d be strong enough for a lead role in a movie, but then again I haven’t seen him in much….

Grand Theft Parsons ?
as for his acting talent, think he should have stuck with jackass.. cant be taken seriously.

I can’t believe you’re actually having a discussion on him playing Max Payne….

Grand Theft Parsons was good, and he played a novelty role in Walking tall, I reckon he could pull it off, no one else a similar appearance.
When I heard the film was going to be done, I instantly though shit, Mark Walberg, or Nicholas Cage….
Personally I would prefer to see Johnny Im not a fan of jackass, but he has the correct appearance, and with some careful direction he could probably pull of the intesity.
Either way, just stun the fucker until his face becomes stiff, wrinkled, and you know he will do a damn good job ;)

Hrm, apart from Jane, who I appear to be the only one in favour of, I though about Clive Owen..unfortunately he’d never get away with the New York accent…
The reason I say Jane is because the roles of The Punisher and Payne are quite similar and despite the fact that the film was slightly dodgy, I still think he did a great job…
Knoxville looks the part anyway but whether he could pull the roll off or not…hrm I’m not sure. He was enjoyable in Walking Tall but I havnt seen him in anything even semi-serious like Grand Theft Parsons yet…

the guy Justin Theroux out of six feet under, American Psycho, and the muse hysteria video is exactly the guy needed to play max payne. He looks the part and is an established actor.

alternatively they could just use me… :D

Plus he has that same, “I’m constipated” look on his face. :p
Seriously, this film may well be totally eclipsed by the Sin City series. Pity, because Max Payne is one of the few games that actually has a very good story.
