InactiveJust wondering if anyone knows of any locations in Ireland where Motion Capture can be done?
Be it a Studio, College, UNI or someones backyard ;)
On a side note, for some reason I get a php forbidden error every time I try and login from home, or work…. very strange.

InactiveKnow of any good sites?
I have been in contact with a few studios in Sweden, UK, France and Germany. I potentially will book with them and fly out and do the Mo-Caps. Just curious if we had any facilities here in Ireland. I can see this as a great hinderance to any serious game efforts here in Ireland.
I did find which seems very reasonable, and I guess you do get what you pay for, but for testing its pretty damn good

InactiveI know the guys who did the Eircom weather stings (Pirana Bar in Dublin) went to the UK to do MoCap for that.
Might be worth giving them a call.

The Image Synthesis Group in the Dept. of Computer Science, which I founded and now co-manage, has the Vicon setup in our main lab. We are currently using it for character animation research.
We could potentially be interested in making it available for a modest fee or in other arrangement depending on the circumstance. It’s a nice rig, but proviso is we’re still coming to terms with it, not having had it for very long…

InactiveThats amazing. Really. Thats a such a strong asset for an Irish college, i suppose if anyone was gonna have it, it’d be Trinity.
Once captured, are you guys piping it to filmbox, and then to whatever format required? The current project I’m involved in will definitely require some Mo-Cap at some point, so its great to know it can [possibly] be done domestically.

Many studios have their own mocap setups these days. EA have a huge one up in Vancouver and Sony have a pretty big one down in San Diego (size of a basketball court).
Vicon are probably the most popular for games and movies, but Motion Analysis is the other biggie and they are very popular for high precision stuff like medical applications. But they do games as well.
Right now we’re dealing with the data raw (because that’s what we do), but getting FilmBox/MotionBuilder for cleaning the data is something we might do if there were demand for the facility. The Floor space is limited though, so you won’t be doing a cavalry charge or anything, but might be useful to more modest captures. Usable floor space is probably 5m square.
