… "hand-held device with touchscreen and digital tactile pixels."

      http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/06/28/patent-reveals-touchscreen-handheld-device-from-phil-harrison/

Check out the "patents" link. Is this just a DS/iPhone catch-up, or more?

      Tactile pixels, eh?

Not surprising, didnt rumours recently sufface of a possible PSP phone in the future. Makes sense haptics would be involved if they wanted to rival the i-phone. After all thats what makes it so special. Also i-phone is getting alot of attention as a gaming platform in recent weeks, especially with Carmack (and Id) saying they wanted to start development on a few games as they viewed it as the superior hand-held in terms of power and GFX capabilities.

Couldn’t it just be a new Sony Ericsson phone? Seems like it wouldn’t be a good idea to release a PSP phone. They could just release a Sony Ericsson to rival the iPhone.[/quote:a2dcf2c686]

Doubt it Ericsson and Sony dont get on really anymore. Can’t remember the details but read about it online, i think it was something to do with them taking the walkman brand and making phones.

It really would be the best thing ever if Nintendo (and Sony) just somehow WELDED sim-card things to their DS and PSP respectively.

Then, I would never, ever ever look at anything else.

How hard can it be? Really? Didn’t the Zodiac/TapWave/Gizmodo thing have Sim/GPRS? And they were a fly-by-night operation, running from VC funds.

Surely Nintendo and Sony can make this happen?

And if they did, I’m sure Microsoft would cook up an X-Phone360…

      B.

Well I guess if Sony and the rest won’t give the people what they want, some bright spark will find a way…

This is a step in the right direction. Never really used the UMD anyway, spinning eats the battery.
