Ryanair pull off a fantastic PR stunt by bidding for the (semi) national Irish airline. Oh how the world changes over time…

he’s a smug nod-and-wink conman typical of what is most rotten about irish society.

I seem to be in the minority here.

One thing I will say is that he has reason to be smug, since 1994 he has taken Ryanair, which at the time was on the verge of filing for bankruptcy, and transformed it into one of the world’s most profitable airlines, at the same time making himself one of Irelands richest men. No mean feat for someone who didn’t graduate from college. :D

I have never flew on aer lingus, but ryan air , for a lack of a better word are shit, so tight, its unreal. you have to pay for everything,if your getting on a plane you need lugage. They are far the worst of the cheap airlines and i’ve sampled alot of them.

Well thats always been the point I’ve made. If you want a drink on board then buy one and if you want extra services then pay for them. Me, if I want to fly to London or something all I’ll need is a ticket and a seat and I’ll be happy. What would make me unhappy is paying extra for things that I don’t want.

Then theres the “Oh noes, if you check in late they’ll cancel your ticket!” type arguments. Fine, don’t be late. They have T&C so read them, if you don’t then you have no one else to blame but yourself if something happens.

Neither have I. Do they basically run the same ship as BA?

If so, then why the hell would you fly with them?? :P

BA Flight attendant: Here’s your horrible meal sir. Would you like to pay with an arm or a leg?

They used to run that way but in 2001, the year they nearly went bankrupt, they hired Willie Walshe as the company CEO who introduced major changes in the company in a bid to cut both costs and fares alike. He stayed on till 2004 when he had a fall out with the government over the privatization of the company and was soon snapped up by, you guessed it, BA. :D

The funny thing was, he came out publically and said that many of the changes he introduced were based on Micheal O’Leary’s style of business. Go figure eh? :D

Did you see the Dispatches show about how despicable Ryan Air is??

Don’t get me wrong, I fly them all the time, but some sort of customer service would be appreciated.

And as for a “didn’t he do well and he never went to uni” congrats, hasn’t everyone who has done really well not gone to university?? Does anyone go to uni and do really well…we never hear about them!

That’s because it doesn’t make a good story!

Exactly, but I’m getting a bit sick of hearing that line about every second success story

i don’t know about the rest of you, but i’d much rather not work at a game studio that reflected o’reilly’s management practices – and if i’m not willing to suffer them in my own life, i see no justification for attempting to inflict them on anyone else.

Aer Lingus pilots bought over 2% share to help stop the buy-out and the government is backing ryanair not getting it, hurray!
