Nope worse than I expected:
Infinium Labs, the company working on a game delivery service through a PC-as-console, announced more details concerning the cost of its Phantom service package. The Phantom Gaming Service should launch on November 18, 2004. When it does, if consumers sign up for two years of service (at $29.95 per month), the hardware will be free. Like many cell phones, the hardware is being paid for out of revenues from the service plan.
The hardware itself will be produced in Asia by Taiwanese manufacturer Biostar, and will include an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ and an nVidia GeForce FX 5700 Ultra. That $29.95 subscription fee is described as the price of a “basic subscription,” so it’s not yet clear what other premium fees one might encounter on the service.
So…if you pay $720 the hardware is FREE – wow, Bargain!
