Inactivei don’t know really, blu-ray will be only good if you have a high def t.v. and i won’t be getting of of those any time soon. i just think sony have took too big of a gamble with this blu/ps3 thing. it worked great for the ps2/dvd but i its too early for everyone to start ditching there dvd players for blu-ray players, i just don’t see it happening.

InactiveI will still play DVDs, you know.
Anyway, who here honestly watches movies on physical media that aren’t stacks of golden discs in a metal box (Hard drives) anymore???I know why I’m getting a PS3 – Eye candy!!! – buh! I mean Games!.
I’ll be getting it and a HDTV if I can subsist on a diet of air and bellybuttonfluff for a few years to pay off the loan it’ll require.
No, I’m not being sarcastic! I need to lose the weight.

Me, for one. I find that the lovely warm feeling I get when I order a new DVD is the same as when I get a new game and get to rip off the cellophane. Some people just love to have that stack of lovely boxed DVDs in the corner ready to go at any time and brim full of extras to watch when they get bored. :D -

InactiveDon’t get me wrong, I like that too, and people despair at how much I enjoy DVD extras, but I don’t see why everyone is fixating over the Blu-Ray movie format.
Even if it fails as a movie format, it’s guaranteed to stay for a while in the form of PS3 game discs anyway.
And the PS3 is about lifelike games anyway. Why’s everyone getting so het up about the type of movies they watch?

InactiveAh, head on over to DVD Compare then. Thats what I use to make sure I get the best version of a movie when it comes out. The folks here think I’m nuts but I just like to make sure the version I get is the best quality and has the best, not necessarily the most, extras.

Hah, it would be amusing if Blu-Ray fell flat on its face just like UMD. :D -

Bought The Returner there a few weeks back, the subtitles are dire(only ever 5th line is actually translated) and I don’t do dubbed
Just me are a lot of people rooting for the failure of one console or another… can’t we all just get a long!!!! In the end its better for the consumer if all consoles are a success or is that too much of an utopian idea.

InactiveHow odd, it works fine for me…:?
Aye, you have to be very careful with subtitles. I really really hate the ones that are burnt in, its just like…WHY?

Word on the grapevine is that it’s actually useful for those game thingies.
(But seriously, I’ve heard a number of pretty high profile third party games have only been announced for PS3 because their developers just don’t know yet if they’ll be able to squeeze them down on to DVD! Don’t write off the importance of more storage capacity for games over the next 5 or 6 years just yet!).

Inactiveas harrison said, blu ray will be useful in mastering one disc for all regions. hence reason ps3 will be region free. so the disc will come with all video and languages all on the one disc. I suspect this will reduce the price of manufacture, in that all discs will be made in the one place, where its cheapest at the time. however it does mean that localisation and testing will have to be done in all places at the same time, to ensure global releases. that could be a tough task.

I think you’ll find that it was Leonard “Bones” McCoy, played by DeForest Kelly (R.I.P.) who had that particular catchphrase. -
