I was going to post that theinquirer isnt exactly a very reliable source but the no comments speaks volumes. Oh well no PS3 for me now.

I heard they had similar problems with the PS2 and it wasn’t a big deal.

Shouldn’t it be http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=32171 or am I missing something? :?

Anyway, I’ve usually found the Inquirer fairly reliable when it comes to Graphics Card news and benchmarks but that article seems abit, I duno, odd I guess…If things were THAT bad I would have thought we’d have heard about them before now. :?

This sound very odd to me:

Anyone know how many cooling fans the ps3 has?

Fans? judging by the kits….I’d estimate about twenty.

Having the PS2 chip onboard…that sounds about right though…hardware solution early on, then replace with the software emulat0r later on when they have their mojo working.

More cost for Sony to absorb early on though.

Its all good though…it will all be fine.

Judging by the launch price of the ps3 they don’t seem too fond of that.

Quick question folks, which would you rather buy

the current “cheap” ps3 with the smaller hard drive and other missing features or for the cheap option ps3 to keep all the feature like the 60gig hard drive and lose the ps2 chipset and not have it backward compatible but have the option to download the software emulator later onto your 60gig hard drive?

Personnally i’d go for the second option if it was available but that’s just me

I’d buy a Wii to be honest…if thats not out, a 360. PS3 just seems like a mess now.

I’m hearing that article is off the mark/misled/wrong. Local ram refers to VRAM in PS3 parlance with reading back from VRAM being considered fairly unimportant. Can see how one would come to the conclusion that it meant the cell chips could only read their own memory very slowly when looking at those slides though.

Just one comment. When sony mentioned local memory they didnt mean main memory (RAM), they use the wording of “local memory” when they are referring to VRAM. So that article is completely wrong on that point. although i hold sony to blame for wrong wording :)

Seems like this guy O’ Hanrahan isnt singing from the same hymn sheet as phil harrison. Surprisingly pessimistic.

      Ah get you know dillion..

Interesting fact, read on one of the other sites that the software that enables the XBox360 backwards compatibility takes up 7GB of space on the hard drive. Thats…insane. :?

Note surprised. The way they emulate it is pretty impressive, recompiles and interpretes the code as it runs each time.

I dont think pc games ever went anywhere. Publishers like them because they make alot more money off a title on the pc. They dont have to pay royalties to sony and microsoft to put their game on their console.

So cushy, EA, Ubisoft, and Microsoft/Xbox also have offices here just for the fun of it.

If you have not before, this is worth a read…

In 1995 a man with a background in selling photocopying machines was hired by Sony to market and build awareness of Sony consoles and games in the Irish market. Eight years on we have the second highest penetration of Sony consoles in the world. Jamie McCormick talks to Niall O’Hanrahan about marketing consoles and games in the Irish market and how Sony could be of assistance to Irish game developers. [/quote:31c8640ced]

This is at the same time that John Carmack is saying that the PC market is getting smaller and his future efforts will be focused on the 360 and mobile?
