 Yeah I know , but everyone likes a good moan every now and then. (I am ordering a GP2X in a couple of days). Would just be nice to know if you put the effort in a created a great handheld homebrew game that more than a hand full of people would get to appreciate it.

Accepted. But there are always work arounds if it were in their interest (They lost me for one as a customer).
Surely Sony if they were so inclined have the smarts that could partition signed code and homebrew on the device, restricting access to anything that presents a security risk thus making firmware downgrades and other hacks as hard as they would be now to pull off. If they overlook something then they could issue a firmware fix and enforce that new Big Dev games require it as they do now.
Or if Sony provided a download system and ensured HB code was tested to ensure it was simply a game prior to making it available for download and gave it a special signature. (I only care about games screw running Linux on it :P ).
If they make a mistake and let something out they should not have then again new patch that will not run that particular games’ signature – or update the sigs on the rest of the games in the download platform. Then only signed code runs and does not facilitate piracy. -

Even if they had a download section that allowed you to download PS1 games without needing a PS3 seems like a stretch to them. The redesign must have a second nub, kills so many games with it absent.

what you want is xna on a psp. not going to happen on a sony console. maybe if ms create a handheld, which is probably likely sometime during the 360 life time or 720 life time :)

Yep xna on psp about sums it up.:D
I really hope Microsoft do cater for the discerning handheld developer in the future, they don’t seem so worried about piracy in general if Vista is anything to go by. In the mean time I will get my C up to scratch with my gp2x, can’t wait for it to arrive. -

Seems new psp may get rumble too. Indicated by Victor Viegas, CEO of Immersion – the company that has a patent on controller vibration.

We have alot to thank Sony for in fairness for tackling the handheld market. It gave Nintendo a much needed kick up the arse. Handheld gaming didnt interest me at all before the DS but Sony entering the market with an ambituous plan made Nintendo innovate to try and hold onto all their game boy customers and add a few new ones.
PSP is flawed but it has some interesting games. MGS portable ops is making me consider one alone, Pro Evo 6 is supposed to be good. The redesigned and cheaper psp may well be worth getting, especially if they throw in a 2 or 4GB card with it.
