The survery on game developers salaries was released today
http://gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=23935
I’m quite interested to see what ye think about it being someone that hopes to get a job in the next year or so in games. Are the figures accurate from yer experiences? -

Its based on american salaries, so not very relevant I’m afraid.
EDIT: sorry, was looking at the one on gamasutra where they only spoke about the US numbers…

Surveys are one thing – what the market is actually prepared to pay is generally another – it can go either side depending on the specific job title:
If you have an idea about what you want to do, see what the companies are actually offering on the job sites:
While UK based – Irish Companies would pay similar for top talent. Use these to look for your role:

Average figures? They’re pretty meaningless…
Here’s roughly what was given in a Develop survey published in February:
Programmer
Junior : 17-25K
Regular : 21-35K
Senior : 32-40K
Lead: 40-60KArtist
Junior : 14-22K
Regular : 20-26K
Senior : 27-35K
Lead : 30-50KDesigner
Junior : 15-21K
Regular : 18-26K
Senior : 25-32K
Lead : 30-40KProducer
Junior : 17-25K
Regular : 25-36K
Senior : 35-60KHigh end of each the band is more often paid down south in england (where life is almost as expensive as in ireland), low end more often paid in northern england and scotland.
I’d steer clear of the recruiters, they’ll do you over given any chance at all. A handier site is probably http://www.thegamesindustry.net/. Where jobs are listed by recruiters, take the job listings to google so you can apply directly to the company instead of going through recruiters.

I guess its right – but the wage ranges are quite big (I’m looking at the designer ones..) so they are bound to be somewhat close.

I am suprised that Designers seam to be quite low compared to other jobs. But i supose at the end of the day these survey’s only tell you so much. Just out of intrest does Level design come under design or Art.

Depends on the company…I say it leans more towards the art team in most places.
Its a bit of a bastard department.

It’s a good tip and I feel exactly the same way, but don’t forget some studios will only go through recruiters. Whether or not it’s worth applying to those studios is up to the individual.
