Wo Wo Wo Super Mario Bros. is at 13 ????? Not my number one but by their own description it should have ranked higher – like top 3 higher!

Arguably the most popular console game ever and one of the top-selling video games of all time, Super Mario Bros. saved the industry from the great crash after the fall of Atari and established platform gaming conventions that transcended the leap to 3D and are still widely used today.[/quote:6867955fe5]

I dont agree with GTA at number 1. HALO should be a lot higher. I think ZELDA might have been my number 1 even thought its not as good now a days and far from my fav game. Dont get me started on John Madden Football.

What exactly did Halo do that was so important to gaming? There was nothing particularly innovative in it that I am aware of.

Not sure how important Halo/Halo 2 is in the grand scheme of things, its main effect as far as I can see is that it made online console play big which in itself is pretty important I guess.

I was initially skeptical of Madden too however when I thought about it makes sense. While its not big over here the Madden series is still a massive seller in the States and was a vital element in EA becoming the giant it is today. Given their presence in the industry today and the affect they have on it I think it definitely deserves a high position.

Its the first time a shooter worked so well on a Console. Before they where all just PC ports now look at how the console shootermarket has grown. Halo 2 also set a very high standard for Online play.

      Enter The Matrix?? …..What? …WHAT????
The buggiest most horrible game ever

      ET….????
Im reading a list of the worst games ever made here right??

      Geomry Wars???
Tempest and Spacewar mixed. Why is it singled out purely because it was one of the first games on XBLA….?

      Halo 2?
      Most shamelessly non-innovative sequel ever?

Funny how madden is in it too.
And i do think that GTA3 was an important landmark in gaming.

I know its easy to poke at the silly things in lists like these, but its a sham that the 4 games mentioned above are in it. ET????

yea it was all right i supose never realy played it. Halo was still the bigger revaution though. Look how well shooters work on consoles now after Halo than before we get a lot more as well. Any one played Half Life for PS2 one of the worst games ever.

The feature is not about the coolest games ever, it’s about important ones and ET is an important landmark in game industry history. It’s infamous flop was one of those events which nearly ended the industry for many before it began…

E.T. is also greatly responsible for the video game crash of 1983, which spelled disaster for the once omniscient Atari.[/quote:6e7654a151]

i agree with GTA 3 being a very important game. its pretty much innovated games in most aspects..

Good soundtracks, blend of open endedness vs missions, a mix of about 10 different types of game.

Also i agree with goldeneye, without it you wouldnt have halo etc. Glad to see wolf3d is up there, again a game which define the FPS genre or possibly kick started it
