      Given the poor performances in Maths and Science in the Leaving Cert, IMO there should be a lot more fuss made about people like Anne Kernan etc might give people some to aspire to…

      I suggest you look at the international league tables for education standards and be very thankful that you got an Irish education. Very, very thankful.

      Yeah Scandinavian countries have an excellent record, but they also have far more resources. Regardless of that an Irish education is a much sought after thing. Why do you think we have so many international students?

      I’m with Nifty on this one. I’m damn pleased with my Irish education and it compares more than favourably with the standards of our European neighbours in my experience.

      Sure it’s got it’s flaws but by and large it’s doing a great job.
