As part of a joint initiative between Sony, Toshiba and IBM, Trinity College, Dublin has been chosen as the location for a research centre into the Cell Broadband Engine, the powerful chip at the heart of the Sony Playstation 3. [/quote:9853b8b9ca]

Nice work if you can get it ;)

A: "So, do you think we can put this chip in other things?"
      B: "I reckon we can"
      A: "Sweet!"
B: "Want to go to the Pub?"

Nice timing also for Trinity, if i’m not mistaken isn’t the CAO/CAS due in a few weeks? Although I could be paranoid.lol….

This is the same centre. As part of the recent trade mission to Japan by the Irish Govt., a number of Irish-Japanese initiatives were highlighted, including the CELL Centre of Competence. While this article by the journalist appears like the Centre was just announced, it was really launched last October, and simply highlighted again now.

There’s no particular motive to this other than to highlight collaborative research going on at the moment, with the hope of strengthening ties, which can only be a good thing.
