InactiveValve delivers Half-Life 2 release candidate. (Rumours suggest that it’s going to be tested at Vivendi Ireland.)
EuroGamers.net reports: Valve Software has delivered a Half-Life 2 release candidate to publisher Vivendi-Universal Games, head honcho Gabe Newell has announced in a forum post on H2fallout.com.
There was an air of deja vu about the whole thing after the recent fiasco involving the hijacking of Newell’s forum account on a Half-Life 2 fansite, but Planet Half-Life reports that the post has now been confirmed as genuine by Valve’s Doug Lombardi and Newell himself.
However, it’s worth pointing out that this does not mean that Half-Life 2 is “gold” – i.e. finished. For now it should be with Vivendi’s quality assurance department, and until it’s approved – which it may not be – the game is not technically finished.
It is nevertheless a huge step in the progress of this most highly anticipated of first-person shooters. With a huge chunk of the game already preloaded to customers via Steam, and Vivendi doubtless enthusiastic about getting the game on store shelves before the end of the year, all the signs are good that we could be playing Half-Life 2 in the very near future.

InactiveI’ve got a mate who works as a games tester in the localisation department of Vivendi. He saw one of his heads playing a copy of it in one of the offices for only a few seconds before it was turned off in a hurry.
My friend is praying that he will be on the team for the localisation of Halflife instead of the next Barbie goes shopping title.

InactiveThe first Half-Life was put through QA over here so I’d imagine the sequel will as well.

Yes, I prey everyday that I will be in the team for Halflife2 QA test.Confirmation:
Also, we won’t be localising it here. This process will be done by Valve, in-house. So we only get the RC build here.. which looks the sh*t by the way…One last thing: Barbie princess bakery is a game that has cause a few suicide attempts amongs the QA team here, so please observe a minute of silence for them…

I had wondered where Half Life Source had got to, I would probably have joined Steam if it was there with Counter Strike Source.
But yeah good job, I’ve never played it.

The second post on this thread is more like a rumour.
“Edit/update: apparently the HL2 RC build they got is rubbish… ”
That would be the final build from Valve then? ;)

InactiveWait a sec, when someone says the RC2 is rubbish…I think in this case its that Valve have done a balls up on the localisation.
The thing is when I was there they constantly fecked up their own HL patches, so I have noooo idea how they can manage to do there own localisation.
Sorry Valve, I respect you but….

“Drawn-out saga of Valve’s opus approaches an end at last
Vivendi Universal Games is expected to formally announce a November 26th release date for Half-Life 2 in Europe shortly, along with a US release three days earlier, after informing UK retail partners of the date this week.
Valve delivered a release candidate to VU on September 15th, and although an official ‘Gold’ announcement has still yet to emerge, retail sources in the UK indicate that they have now been given notice of the expected late November date.
It was previously feared that the game might slip into 2005, as recent news of legal wranglings between VU and developer Valve made talk of further delays look increasingly likely, although the company could ill afford to miss out on the lucrative Christmas opportunity for such an important game.
With marketing plans taking months of preparation and Christmas space at a premium, it was essential VU made retail aware of its plans – even though official confirmation may be still pending.
When contacted for confirmation, Valve’s Doug Lombardi was still unable to shed further light on the matter, uttering the now-familar words: “Unfortunately, I do not have a release date from VUG right now,” no doubt under orders to wait until it’s ‘officially’ announced.
On a related matter, despite the appearance of print reviews of the game next week, online readers are being forced to wait until the day of release before they can read review coverage of the game. Last night, Lombardi confirmed: “The online reviews will be held until the day the game is made available,” with review code being held back until then.”

InactivePC Gamer has reviewed HL2. The game has received the highest score the magazine has ever given a game – 96%! Only time will tell how hype influenced the score. Regardless, it should be something special.

InactiveIf the actual in-game story is half as interesting as this “epic pre-release saga”… then Half-Life 2 will probably be a masterpiece and redefine the genre forever!
Can’t wait!
