Aphra KKeymaster
we were talking about the end of June and then taking a break for the summer..
there is another thread here in general discussions on shindigs so check that out…we need suggestions for days, dates. etc..so maybe you can get people talking about that again!

Aphra KKeymasterHi Willem,
this is an all Ireland site since we all cross the border quite a lot…so welcome on board..
I know about the IDGA chapters but this site is all about finding out who is out there and trying to create a community..we are hoping to start face to face meetings every two months and as things grow then perhaps we can think about starting a chapter…maybe a bit premature at present?
and by the way I am female…although not a game developer!
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterI was talking to the people in UpStart Games and it seems there has been great interest in their N-Gage challenge. Over 350 application packs sent out…should be interesting to see which five are selected for development..
aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterI can move it but perhaps it is better here as all the sections in game development at the moment are platform specific…
where do you suggest?
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterI have to say I didn’t know they were on or we would have posted them on the calendar…..and on the news section
anyone else hear about them?
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterThanks Sir Random for your comments. We are pleased to add new categories or consider new angles if there are people out there interested in these subjects..
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterand I see the pricing has just been announced for the N-gage….The N-Gage itself will retail for $299 while the games, which are available on
memory cards, will cost $30 to $40.or so it says on gamasutra.com anyway
anyone busy on concepts for the N-gage challenge?
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasternot bad…
we’ll try the squeezing into a pub too me thinks..

Aphra KKeymasterHi everyone..
can someone keep me a copy of Develop – I don’t get it..
did they say nice positive things about us?
thanks,
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterHi all,
Well that sounds like a good idea to me (if only to hear Paul Hayes telling stories about Mal!).
So social evenings every two months and every now and again maybe a themed evening on a particular topic.
Now we only have to decide where is a good place to meet and what day of the week?
Also should we start after the summer or should we have one in June just to keep the momentum up?
oh, and I don’t think we can afford the catering again so we’ll all have to bring our own lunchboxes :)

Aphra KKeymasterHi everyone.
Jamie in response yes I think it would be useful to talk to some companies who have been here but are no longer.
Gremlin for example were here but I don’t know much about what they got up to.
Pixelmagic is another one who developed one game – and there are still some people around who were involved in that.
Taintech are dormant and at least one of the main people is still with us to talk to.
Funcom would be interesting as I interviewed them just before they closed down in 2001. Most of their development is now done in Norway.
I have also been talking to someone here in DCU who was involved in an interesting mobile project which unfortunately did not see the light of day.
Anyone got any other names of companies or people who have tried it before and have advice to offer.

Aphra KKeymasterHi all,
well I had a very pleasant afternoon on Monday last in the RDS at the MegaLAN. In case you didn’t know about it 150 PC gamers all gathered to play online games over three days – I caught them on the last day but they were still going strong.
Also met De Vore – infamous from boards.ie and these guys hope to organise more such events in the future.
If you are into online games keep an eye on their website for upcoming events and info on the last one http://www.megalan.net/

Aphra KKeymasterHi all,
thanks Omen that would be great although perhaps someone in Ireland would be useful too – in case we want to get them to write about the Irish legal situtation in this area.
Anyone else any contacts in this area here in Ireland?
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterHi all,
Thanks Michael for your posting re EI in this area – it is great to see people from EI active on this forum.
For your information Gamedevelopers.ie will be posting articles on ‘Setting up a company’ in the Resources section of this website. See http://www.gamedevelopers.ie/resources/
In the first article posted we looked at some of the agencies you should be talking to in the Republic and in Northern Ireland with regard to starting up or expanding a company in the digital games field. These articles will be expanded and developed as we receive more information.
We also hope to conduct interviews with companies who have tried to establish game companies in Ireland.
watch this space,
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterHi all,
I was wondering does anyone have any recommendations as to an expert on IP and legal issues in the games domain?
