If it’s after April 4th, I’ll be able to come along, I’m handing in my thesis that day and will be MIA in the pub for the rest of that week.

Well EA have signed up with a UK multimedia outlet to licence a load of their stuff for ringtones etc. Remember, IP lets you make a lot of money in plenty areas outside of games.

If it’s market research, I can help you out. I’m finishing off my degree in the area and can give you a few pointers on how to use the information and questions to get the info you need. Send me a PM and I’ll give you my email address.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for going into so much detail, and a lot of the things you have said have been things I was expecting to hear (which is good). It’s just for something that I’m thinking of a little further down the road.

Maybe another little addition to my previous question too, would techs prefer to deal with someone who would cover all (or most) these areas, and at what point would you bring business people onto the team full time (and I’m definitely not job hunting in case you ask, so don’t think I am). I’m looking at putting a lot of information together, but there seems to be very few (if any) business people who work in games that aren’t attached to an individual company.

I hope this is making sense, and I’ll be around on Friday from 6.30pm until around 9pm at Toners so if anyone wants a chat then, I’ll be there with my pints >:)

    Hi guys,

Just to let you all know that Toner’s has been booked for Friday 17th December from 7pm. They said it’ll be busy, and that they can hold two tables until then but if anyone can be around earlier, say from 6.30 I’ll be there, my last day of exams so I’ll be going out on the lash with my class that evening so anyone who gets there earlier would be appreciated.

I think anything to do with seeing if development time and costs can come under a R&D status is important, and the government is trying to push for more indigenous R&D, and even Intel is getting on their backs about it.

For stuff like middleware this is especially important, but would also apply to companies during the initial development of an engine, and tax relief would make companies in turn more attractive to investors.

They’ve got their figures wrong (as usual) but this has been talked about for some time now, as the main demographic of 19-30 seems to be shifting TV to more of a background position, ie having it on in the background but really not playing much attention to it. AC Nielson have been talking about the opportunities for some time now, and have linked up with both EA and Activision as far as I’m aware on a pilot scheme.

Those evil marketing folk are trying to see what you’re up to I tell you :)

If you decide on anything marketing orientated, give me a shout and I’ll see if I can get you pointed in the right direction.

Ideas though, maybe something about the symbiotic relationship between video games and driving the computer graphics card industry, I’ve always found that one of the most interesting things about graphics considering the only people who buy high-end PC’s are either graphic designers or gamers, and Alienware (super-fast PC’s) is now shipping from Ireland

Hey guys, finally got Irish Broadband installed at home, if anyone knows how to boost the signal please let me know because it’s shite at the moment.

I’m around town on the 19th, but won’t be free after that due to exams fairly soon, so if the shindig is going ahead I should be able to make it.

If not, Pete give me a shout and we’ll go for a pint, I tried PMing you but you seem to be either very popular on the boards with the lads or too lazy to clear out your inbox (and sent items too).

was wondering, in passing (as I don’t know much about the retail chain timescale: how early do stores or wholesalers get the games after duplication?), if this kind of practices have anything to do with just-before-release leaks…[/quote:ee661cf2ca]

They can get the game up to a week in advance, but usually a few days before, the larger titles need longer production runs and get sent out earlier, hence some games being sold up to a week in advance.

It’s waiting for the redesign to be done, and then the career guide will be incorporated in the career section of the site.

And I haven’t fallen for either the booze or sauce, just have a lot of work to get through in college so I’m going to be fairly quiet for the next few months, and bloody Irish Broadband losing my order hasn’t helped as I’ve been internetless at home for over a month now :/ (will miss Halo 2 on Xbox Live until it arrives)

Lads, green pints of Fat Frogs were not a good idea, horrible things they were.

Anyway, I had a ball, great organisation Tony so pat yourself on the back :)

Nice to meet the usual crew again, there was a good turnout and plenty of new faces up there too, and I see that Patrick got stuck in chatting away to people too.

For those of you who didn’t make it, there was a huge focus on the business side of development, such as investment, managing your people and resources, marketing your product and a big focus on IP. Good to know that I’ll be in demand when I finish up college in may, and any other business heads on the forum might have plenty of hope too because it’s not just the techies who are needed.

Claire, any chance you could PM me your number and meet up for a pint, didn’t get to chat with you as much as I wanted to and you’re an interesting character.

Well if it’s a european localisation it could have come out of the Dublin plant, which would make things very interesting.
