I don’t think so, but I know someone that is starting working with them on Monday, so they’re certainly already up and running : )
Jamie McKeymasterHi Aphra,
Yeah, I have a lot of things on that list to go through still,
I’ll put some time aside this weekend to get cracking on it!

Jamie McKeymasterJamie McKeymasterHi guys,
Keep an eye on http://www.gala-net.eu/careers/ as this will have the jobs as they come live.
Please remember though, that we are a publisher as opposed to a developer.
If you missed it on tv, check out

Jamie McKeymasterHappy New Years, and new decade guys. We’ll have an industry by the end of it!
2009 was a good year. We had the excellent review of the industry which needed to be done, and has happened at a good time. I’ve been lucky enough to talk to the IDA and they have the right people in there, and they’re very inquisitive which is a good sign. I also got the chance to talk to the Irish Film Board, and they seem interested in the Irish games industry as well.
We’ve got the right sort of coverage, and positive coverage of that, in the mass media. RTE, Irish Times, Irish Independent and Radio have talked to us, so hopefully some of you working out there in the industry will also do the same. The more people are writing about the business of the games industry here in Ireland, the more it will become something of a discussion point, which will hopefully lead to proper radio discussions, and then access to the people who can say
Ok, we understand that games aren’t really like any other product out there we’re used to dealing with. There doesn’t have to be a physical item manufactured. You can make them anywhere in the country where people have access to the right skills, it and broadband infrastructure (which we have).
Lots of different types of people are needed for a games company. When they make money, they count as exports, which we need right now, and with the internet as a distribution channel, we don’t even need to manufacture anything once the complete IP/game goes on sale. They require skilled jobs, at a time when many people with those skills are either not using them, or want to improve them. We’ve a ton of people in the UK who have’t quite settled yet, and would jump at the opportunity to do the same kind of job they are doing here, whereever it is in Ireland.
An industry has distinct sectors, and these need to be outlined. Technology (ie what Havok and Demonware do), Localisation & Support, Publishing, Development and Other.
A special category should also be created for indigineous companies of all sizes and stages.
We need to push for specific types of games content creation to be classified (ie mobile, iphone, web, social, console, pc, and a "future" one to lump all the emerging stuff into which can be categoriesed later) and then have a access to the same grants that someone who wants to set up a bakery, or wants a grant for a multimedia project such as a film, and access to the same incubation facilties and seed capital programs. Tax breaks for investors would help too.
We can also deflect some of the Montreal bound companies to Ireland, by copying and irishing the tax terms, and also bring a lot of quality people into Ireland in a very short period of time, who can train everyone else who learning their trade at the moment with cutting edge skills.
I know this is a bit of a rant, but if we can all get one journalist to write an article on the Irish games industry, or one radio show to get members of the GD.ie community to talk about the Irish games industry on air, we can really kick off an enthusiasm going among the media. Jobs, success and something fun to focus on is just what this country needs right now.
We have Games Fleadh 2010 in March, and if we start now, we can get journalists from every newspaper, radio station and tv channel (including TG4) in to cover it. Then we have the 7th birthday of GD.ie and the other stuff that is going on in the meantime.
So looking forward, I think this year will be the turning point where a lot of things fall in place to finally kickstart the industry we’ve been working so hard to build.
A lot has changed since I started with IrishPlayer.com , here’s to 2010
Jamie (looking forward to Fallout New Vegas)
Jamie McKeymasterHi guys,
We have our Christmas party tonight so I won’t be able to make it along. Have fun!

Jamie McKeymasterHi Aphra,
How about a forward looking year ahead report?
Jamie McKeymasterHi guys,
Just to clarify
THIS COMPETITION IS CLOSED
Aphra, can you remove, hide or lock this thread?
Jamie McKeymasterEveryone who sent a PM was issued a beta key by GD.ie private message earlier this week. After the codes above were published, there are no more beta keys available.
This competition is now closed, and thank you for your interest in the game.
For any Irish or UK colleges that want to get involved with games societies or games courses, you can continue to contact me directly by pm
Thanks
Jamie
Jamie McKeymasterHi guys,
I didn’t factor in the time inbetween sending messages, so i’m now going to sit down for the next hour or so and send out all the beta keys to everyone who has applied so far. And yes, this includes everyone who isn’t Irish too, as you’ve all been so nice.
As of midnight GMT on 19/11, I still have twenty beta keys left for this competition. So instead of doing them one by one this time, take one from below. Please do not take more than two, and please leave a post after to identify which one you have taken out of courtesy to everyone else.

Jamie McKeymasterHi guys,
I’ll be issuing beta codes later today to those who have messaged me.
For Irish users who have contacted me, especially those from colleges, you will get priority and multiple keys.
For everyone else, I’ll be sending out instructions this evening, and the game client is now available for download from http://en.allods.gpotato.eu/Download/Client.aspx
Yours sincerely
Jamie
Jamie McKeymasterJamie McKeymasterI’ve requested permission to put it on YouTube, hopefully I’ll have an answer soon. If I get it, I’ll post a link.
Jamie McKeymasterHi guys,
This isn’t for any GD.ie readers, but I can see that there are some forum posts already around the internet. The beta keys are for the English version of the game, and will only be distributed to existing GD.ie users.
