Jamie McKeymaster
Hi everyone,
I have set up http://irishgamessurvey.wordpress.com/ so I don’t have to keep spamming the forums.
Thanks
Jamie
Jamie McKeymasterJamie McKeymasterBest of luck to everyone who worked there, I worked there before GameStop took over, and the guys there were pretty ambitious.
Goes to show that it’s a pretty ruthless industry we’re all in if you don’t hit the numbers. But… I’d say this has more to do with GameStop’s recent purchase of Kongregate, than anything that happened in Dublin :/
They’d prefer to own the platform (kongregate) than be invested in an individual studio, and with the talent that Jolt got together under the same roof in Stephen’s Green, i hope that we see what happens when a studio in the UK goes under, and three or four new studios emerge from the ashes.
I know that Dave and Kulpreet have recently launched World of the Living Dead (wotld.com) from Omac days, so I’m sure the guys in there now have plenty up their sleeves, and I hope they find employment quick. Maybe this is where EI can step in and take a failure and turn it into a success or two…

Jamie McKeymasterHi everyone,
We got a few more in from some new counties.
Very general information will be released every couple of weeks to update the count for the games industry in Ireland.
Please help us to get an accurate count of the number of people working in the industry for February 2012. If you can help by tweeting, emailing, or the old fashioned way of giving someone the link, texting it to them, or sitting them down with it on your smartphone in the pub and making them do it :) .
We know there are tons more than the twenty five in the sixth update, so please fill it in for your company. The survey is available at http://tinyurl.com/irishgamesindustrysurvey
Jamie McKeymasterbump, come on we need more of you :)
Jamie McKeymasterWe can get a pretty decent idea of that when we have the data, i’ve found 45 companies so far, and we’ve gotten a few more respondants (thanks :) ) in the meantime.
but here’s the latest update
Jamie McKeymasterI’ve updated this given the unfortunate announcement today (but included the 880 figure as it’s february we’re counting)
I’ve also gone through some of the IDA press releases and put in announced jobs for some companies. But we’re getting lots of smaller developers so please keep going!
Jamie McKeymasterWe have some more respondants, but i’d like to get a few more before updating the results.
Please continue to help spreading the word about http://tinyurl.com/irishgamesindustrysurvey
Thanks
Jamie
Jamie McKeymasterHi again,
I got another three more, so the update is below. Also, considering we all know that Dublin will have tons more than everywhere else, I’m going to change that graph to show the number of counties where the industry is active, and maybe leave that till the end.
Anyway, keep spreading the word, if we can get a couple of companies doing it every day, then it’s only going to take a couple of weeks for us to have a pretty decent estimate as to the size of the industry. Also, if you are from the North, or are an Irish team abroad, please fill in the survey and let us know what countries, as opposed to county, you’re in.
Jamie McKeymasterA few more came in yesterday
Jamie McKeymasterYeah, that was something brought up at the event. There was Northern Irish students from the same Southern college, so I think they were looking into the exact definition of the rule.
I’ve contacted the organisers of Dare and pointed them to this thread, so hopefully they’ll be able to clarify?
Jamie McKeymasterThere was a piece related to the general jobs announcement on morning ireland this morning too

Jamie McKeymasterHi everyone,
I was there today and there was a great turnout, and it was all really positive.
Anyway, I thought I’d collate some of the coverage, please feel free to add some too, and maybe if some of the college groups want to use this to get some PM’s going.
One BIG issue brought up is that the Dare team need to have at least one team member from the other side of the border. There wasn’t anyone from the North at the event, but if you either are an individual, looking for a team to join, or are a team, and need someone from north or south of the border, please use this post to get in touch.
Great fun, and well done to everyone involved
here has been some coverage in Silicon Republic today also: http://www.siliconrepublic.com/innovation/item/25768-dare-to-be-digital-to-offer/ & on Inside Ireland too: http://insideireland.ie/2012/02/10/gaming-sector-opportunities-to-be-highlighed-in-dare-to-be-digital-launch-54972/

courtesy of The Digital HubJamie McKeymasterhi everyone,
i’ll be around that weekend too, so i’ll be there. I have a bucketload of printed copies of the Edge Dublin Feature, (as in dozens), so if you want me to bring one for you on the night, please send me a PM so I can have one put aside for you.
Look forward to seeing everyone, it’s been ages since I could make it to one :)
Jamie McKeymasterRoganski, have indie devs actually ever bothered to pick up the phone to Edge and see if they’re interested in the story?
Now is probably the best time to do so, they might not be interested in interviewing one, but if a couple of teams got together with something to show, you never know.
Aphra, it was IDA and the companies involved that made it happen, particularly Popcap and Jolt from what I can see.
