Aphra KKeymastercan you give any more details?
Are you looking for a company, freelancer or student?
Are you a start-up or existing company?
Is this a game related project?

Aphra KKeymasteryes that is a real shame about Dare, especially as some colleges now incorporate it into their assessments.
Having said that, many people have entered the industry without Dare so there is a lot to be said for personal motivation and getting those portfolios up and running based on assignments, projects and mods etc.
If the Hub is trying to get funding for next year most people will probaby still be eligible and can enter then.
I also have to echo the sentiments that people have made earlier re the Hub – they have been very supportive in terms of organising games related events – not only industry ones but community and student events too. So they deserve recognition for past successes and help to find new funders for the future.
Finally, the amount of money needed to keep a team for 10 weeks in Scotland and to publicise and run this event is not insignificant and given the profile of existing Irish companies there is a pretty smale pool of potential investors/potential down the road beneficiaries. Tough one for the Hub and the Irish games industry I would say.

Aphra KKeymasterwell guess what, they have started marketing ‘the’ book.
Still refining cover details as we speak but looks like it will be out in March. Now there is a reason for a few pints!

Aphra KKeymasterthe first thing the current censor, a certain John Kelleher no less, did when he did to office was unban the Life of Brain and move to a model of classification and audience choice re content rather than state intervention in content. Some things still do get banned but they are very few. See http://www.ifco.ie/ifco/ifcoweb.nsf/web/home?opendocument
that is all I have to say on this thread…having worked on projects for the crisis pregnancy agency here in Dublin my knowledge and insights might not be very conversation generating. Never been to Ibiza either..

Aphra KKeymasteryou know it is worth making the point that not all courses are the same and while it is a little early in the Republic to start accrediting courses in my opinion, given that most have just been established, word of mouth will soon sort out the good ones from the not so good.
Every uni and IT in the South will have their own standards but these are all externed by people from other colleges and abroad. Also there are clear differences between the orientation and goals of a uni and an IT, the ITs are more equivalent to what the polytechnics were in the UK and that is an important distinction to make. Interestingly it is the ITs who in the main have been establishing game degrees and courses while the universities have been adding on modules to core computer science courses.

Aphra KKeymasterthey certainly help people with their European geography given that they fly near to rather than to cities!

Aphra KKeymasterAveril Meehan is oganising this and she said it was going in the local newspapers and on various forums so I don’t know but they said they were publicising it quite widely.
It would be good to get a few gd.ie forum people together for coffee later – probably not a pint as I will probably be driving back to Dublin later that evening. :D

Aphra KKeymasterawakenings is meant to be every two years and will alternate north and south of the country. The Digital hub also ran a month of game related events, including talks, last May and they may run one again this year.
So far many of the events are organised by volunteers so if there is a desire for more events then I suggest you try and organise one in your area. Contact someone on the local IGDA committee and see if they can help out in terms of speakes etc. But we need people on the ground in each area to help with such events, no one has a monopoly on them and it is up to everyone to row in and help.
