Aphra KKeymasteryou could try Jury’s Inn at ChristChurch – I believe they do room rates…so more than one could crash there…
..also the Avalon Hostel on South Great George’s Street or maybe at that point it is Camden st..
Aphra…
Aphra KKeymasterok everyone..I’ve just gone through the nominations…nice spread of newbies and it seems we have a lot of funny people on the boards too..!
full list of nominations will be posted to news later….
late nominations will be included..
final decision with myself, Nicky and one other person (TBC)
I believe the awards are being minted as we speak..
Aphra. ..
Aphra KKeymastersorry to hear that omen…
have you looked at flying into Belfast at all? just a suggestion..since I will be heading to Dublin either late Thurs night or Friday morning…and could collect you at the airport..
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterI just want to thank everyone who has sent an e-mail to events@gamedevelopers.ie to let us know that you are attending on Friday.
You will not receive an e-mail confirmation but all the names have been recorded and name badges will be available on the evening as well as a list of attendees.
It looks like we will have a very good crowd…
I will keep you posted…

Aphra KKeymasterjeepers…I go away for a couple of days and this all happens!
Look good luck with your own endeavour and we hope you visit here too…
I like the idea of a students thread on the forums…the forums are currently being ported and Johnnyslim is working on that. We are going to have threads on art and programming etc…but the technical issues come first….
by the way, ..we can’t stop this site at the borders….so anyone is welcome to post! We don’t check passports…

Aphra KKeymasterI am in favour of it moving between Dublin and L/Derry…certainly there is financial support up north for the event and we have proved it can be run there successfully. Also I think it is important that companies and students in the Northern end of the country have access to events….they may not be always able to travel to Britain or the south…and both IGDA Ireland and gd.ie try to be inclusive of all on the island…
then again Dublin is the hub of the industry at present and that can’t be ignored…also it is a pretty easy place to persuade international speakers to come to/get to…that has to be figured into the equation..
I think it is also worth thinking about having the event every two years…if only because the IGDA committee is voluntary and the event is a lot of work unless you have the money to hire professional conference organisers…let us not be under any illusion that such an event is easy to organise…
Aphra. .
Aphra KKeymasterwe did discuss this before and for both reasons of server space and legal reasons we thought it was better to link to work hosted elsewhere on personal sites etc…
….that is the idea behind the ‘gallery’ section found under community.
ideas about how to improve that facility welcome…
maybe adding one image/screenie…?
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymastergreat to see the nominations coming in..I am actually away in London until Tues evening so the deadline for nominations will be extended until Wed…great to see such a diversity of people nominated too…
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterI have to agree with Nooptical..most films made from games don’t work because most games don’t have enough character or story to carry a film …action films to games seem to work better but again it is about working to the strengths of the medium, not just exploiting the IP…
‘Sillywood’ should have learnt all about it in the 1980s and early 1990s when most of the games to films failed spectacularly to make any money..
But when you have business people trying to exploit IP and synergies between their different assets, the strengths of the particular medium seem to get lost….
by the way, who is this guy Paul Anderson when he is at home?
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymastercan I encourage you all to keep nominating people…we will need more nominations if we are to make the awards a proper competition!
Nicky Grogan of the Digital Hub and Darklight festival has agreed to help me to choose the winners so you all know I am not just picking my mates!!
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterI’ll be working for the morning and then heading off south in the afternoon…so you are not alone!!
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasteryea sorry to hear that Alan…but we will all try to spread the word..
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymastermm, you know you guys are going to make it real difficult to figure out who exactly is being nominated..!!
but grumpy figures might make good awards..
Aphra.
Aphra KKeymasterYes the forms have been giving trouble since we moved the site to a new server.
This will be fixed on the new site which will be unveiled at the birthday shindig….but if things are urgent you can send them to me at aphra @ gamedevelopers.ie and I can put them up for you…
