    Hi Aphra,

Congrats to you and Anthony for putting this survey together, it’s fantastic to see some hard facts to support the growth in the industry that we all have been seeing over the last couple of years. I think that we all look forward to seeing the feedback this gets, and hopefully it’ll give the powers that be a better insight into what is happening behind the scenes in the country.

    Well done guys!

Cheers for the post, every news article that deals with the games industry helps. Sooner or later it’ll be recognised as an industry, not a hobby

newbies are welcome. Just PM us and get a telephone number for someone so you can contact us. Sometimes new people come and don’t find us as they don’t recognise us in the pub! [/quote:80275a8c32]

We really, REALLY need to get something like a Giant Cookie Monster with a GameDevelopers.ie t-shirt so people know where we are, and newcomers can have something to identify the right corner of pissheads.

    Sounds good to me.

How about somewhere like the Brazen Head? Means it’ll be close to Goa and ourselves, and I can see if I get get some of the guys to come out. If it’s after work, it’s usually not too hard :)

    Hi guys,

Sounds cool, and if they get behind us this way, then we’ll get developers moving here.

I’ll see if I can get some more info and see what was actually said at the think in, because that where it seems to be stemming from. If it is policy however, that has fantastic implications, as there are tons of London based companies moving here for the exact same reasons, so if they are making a point of highlighting games, then it would be great for the industry here!

    Hi Aphra,

I’ve plenty of experience from Xbox organising things like roadshows and events, so if this is an option (ie going from college to college), I can help.

I’d really like to run an event with some business people from the games industry, half talk, half workshop to help aspiring development teams to understand how they can monetize, market, promote and distribute their games internationally.

From the lectures Ive done, I have gotten the impression that his is kind of completely ignored in many courses, and we could make the stuff (webcasts, otes etc) available online for people in the future to use as reference points.

Also, I think a small – medium scale jobs fair might be a good opportunity, such as an open interview day for the games industry here in ireland. There are companies big and small looking to find people, and having some sort of face to face for networking, demoing and pitches.

Do you think EI or the IDA would be interested in getting involved in something like that?

    Just my 2c

I had a brief conversation with the guy who set this up over LinkedIn, it is indeed mainly gambling jobs that are listed on it, although I figure he’s hoping to get games jobs listed on it too.

    Hi guys,

It was great to see such a fantastic turnout on Friday and the talks were really interesting. It’s nice to see what companies are up to here in Ireland, and for all the people working on projects I hope the talks and banter in the pub after have given those of you working on small projects a bit of a boost to keep going. If anyone I was talking to wants more info, just send me a pm.

    Thanks

I met with a few of the companies who do in-game advertising, so there’s a lot of ad industry stuff they’ve had to make work online. if you’ve specific questions about it, give me a pm

I’m glad to say I’ve played about 90% of that list through the years, I’m surprised Ico wasn’t higher considering what a cult favourite it is, and shadow of collossus isn’t on the list.

But for anyone too young to remember, mario kart changed what the snes was, it deserves to be number 1, tetris was the best game for years on the gameboy and it had the link cable so you could play one on one against a mate in the schoolyard, gta was so much craic running over all the little guys, super mario world was and still is one of the best platformers.

metropolis street racer should have been on it though, why haven’t car games kept the feature where the time it is on your console is the time its in your game. it was cool playing tokyo at dawn, san francisco at night, and london during the day.
